Voigtlander DA446B overview

  • 1Description

Voigtlander's 15-35mm Multi Format Zoomfinder will show you what your wide-angle lens (from 15mm to 35mm) is capturing when used with a variety of sensor formats. This Type B zoomfinder incorporates frame lines for full-frame sensors, 1.3x crop APS-H sensors, and 2x-crop Micro Four Thirds sensors. The optical design is comprised of 8 elements in 7 groups, along with 3 prisms, and a built-in diopter is continuously adjustable from -2.8 to +1.3. The viewfinder has click-stop settings for 15, 21, 25, 28, and 35mm focal lengths, and parallax lines show the image cut-off at 3.28' (1m), with marked values for 1.3x and 2x crop sensor formats.

    Voigtlander DA446B reviews

15-35mm Multi Format Zoomfinder (Type B) is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from lapsedfilmshooter On the plus side this finder is extremely useful if your goal is to have a single, bright-image finder that will accurately frame lenses ranging from 15mm thru 35mm. On the downside, this finder is much larger comapared to single focal length optical finders and it drastically alters the look and feel of the camera. Another downside is that unlike single focal length finders, you cannot view the area beyond the framelines, which is one of the key advantages of optical finders compared to nmirrorless and DSLR viewfinders.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very useful accessory for wide angle lenses The Voigtlnder viewer is a nice addition to the camera bag, replacing separate 15, 21, 28 and 35 mm separate viewers. It zooms continuously, so it also works with intermediate focal lengths if desired. * The image is very clear. * It has a diopter adjustment that is useful, although it is not a very wide range. * The design is well thought out and the construction is good. * It is not a bright-line viewer, so one does not see outside the selected view. * As with nearly all wide angle viewers, there is much barrel distortion, so precise framing can be difficult. * The view has the aspect ratio 3:2, matching the standard "35 mm" frame. That means that the view is not quite right for a MFT digital camera having a 4:3 aspect ratio. * It has readout for two alternate "crop factors" to use with smaller format sensors. * Taken by itself, it is a bit expensive, but in aggregate it is less than a hand full of separate single viewers. It is much less expensive than the Leica viewer, but I cannot compare the two in performance.
