Vanguard 263AGH overview

  • 1Description

This Alta Pro 263AGH Aluminum-Alloy Tripod Kit from Vanguard supports up to 15.4 lb, measures 28.5" when folded, and includes a GH-100 Pistol Grip Ball Head with QS-65GH Quick Release Plate. Each of its 3-section legs features an independent spread as well as flip locks for fast deployment. Together, the three legs can be can be positioned for a minimum height of 56.1" to a maximum height of 68.5" with the center column fully raised. Foam covers on each of the legs provide a secure, comfortable grip while moving the tripod, and rubber feet each with a twist-out, metal spike further enhance stability on a wide variety of surfaces, including soft and uneven soil.

Cameras, lenses, or sport optics that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the QS-65GH Quick Release Plate, which is secured to the tripod head using a quick release cam lock. Using the GH-100 Pistol Grip Ball Head's squeeze trigger, its integrated ball-and-socket joint can be quickly swiveled 360°, tilted +90°/-32° to the side, tilted +90°/-8° forwards and backwards, or returned to its upright position. Additionally, the cam lock assembly can be rotated 360° independently of the head, while generating 72 clicks at 5° intervals. Useful when capturing a sequence of images that are intended to be aligned and merged into a single panoramic photo, those clicks can be used to ensure that images within a sequence sufficiently overlap to form a panorama.

For added versatility, the center column is connected to the tripod by a fulcrum which enables 90° of upwards or downwards tilt that can be locked into place. Additionally, the center column assembly permits 360° of independent rotation. With the ability to push and pull the center column, those tilt and swivel movements allow the center column to be used as an extendable cross arm or a miniature camera boom. This allows an attached camera to be easily raised toward an elevated subject or over a scene. A camera that is placed toward the end of center column can be positioned perpendicular to the tripod, and extended past the tripod's legs, which is particularly useful for copy stand or macro photography. For subjects along the ground, the center column can also be used to obtain low angles while the tripod's user is positioned comfortably behind the camera.

A carry bag is included for storage or transport.

    Vanguard 263AGH reviews

Alta Pro 263AGH Aluminum-Alloy Tripod Kit with GH-100 Pistol Grip Ball Head is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 104.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pistol Grip Problem??? I had read on other reviews of this product before I purchased it and some said that the ball head would not stay where they put it and that it would slowly creep down with a larger millimeter lens on it. Well I put this to the test and set up the tripod and put my Nikon D5100 on it with my 70-300mm lens completely zoomed out. I tightened the back of the pistol grip down to secure it without over tightening. Then I focused in on a bird house at 300mm and took a picture every 15 minutes for one hour and compared the pictures. There was NO movement at all, absolutely NO creeping what so ever!! I guess the people that had issues with this amazing set up, could not figure out how to tighten the grip down. I love everything about this tripod and pistol grip! I've used it for my stock photos, and for setting up my off camera flash. I love using this for my off camera flash because of how high you can put the flash. Being able to set up my camera using, what I call the camera boom arm feature, has also made things interesting for portraits and my stock photos. This is definitely one of the best tripod combo set ups out there on the market. Thanks so much for making an amazing product that is reasonably priced!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I was looking for I was looking for a new tripod that was sturdy, had a pistol grip head, and had a tilting center column for work with flowers and low lying things. This tripod does everything they say it will. Operation was very straight forward. My one concern was whether it would hold my camera with the 100-500 Sigma zoom lens. It did it with no problem. The pistol grip allows me to move the camera to any position, release the trigger, and it holds it right there. No play in the head after stopping like my old one had. Very pleased, especially with this price. I has met all of my expectations. That doesn't happen very often.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Versatile Tripod I have not had much time to use this tripod (just purchased it a month ago), however, the little use I've had with it leaves me very happy with the purchase thus far. This tripod really expands the shooting possibilities. There is not a position that cannot be least under 6ft. I love the height and the adjustable neck that you can turn 180. It's a little on the heavy side if you plan on carrying long distances, yet this is a plus on windy days because it is less likely to tip over than if it was made of carbon fiber. It holds a great center of gravity for Macro work, and the adjustable neck allows you to get your camera over an object, with the tripod parked next beside. Nice work Vanguard!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Vanguard Customer Service Vanguard has worst customer services ever. I recived a faulty tripod, after 5 months legs were loose when I contacted, they could not help me they offered me a 40% disccount for my next purchase. I do NOT recomend buy Vanguard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding multi purpose tripod I do everything from close up macro photography to panographs to portraits. I was amazed at the different positions this tripod will work in. The arm can be tilted to where the camera is directly above coins on a table for macro work. My panos are also much better with the smooth panning & the quick change from portrait mode to lanscape mode the the pistol grip. For panos I had the camera and a slider assembly for parallax correction. Even with this weight in portrait mode with the camera tilted to the side of the tripod everything was stable & smooth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I was looking for. We have all tried to use cheap tripods and know what that's like. I have a Canon 7D with a battery grip and use up to a 300mm lens, so I decided to spend a reasonable amount of money on a tripod and came up with the Vanguard Alta Pro 263AGH with the GH-100 Pistol-Grip Ball Head. WOW! This tripod is VERY sturdy, VERY easy to adjust into ANY position you can think of, VERY well built, has great height adjustment AND comes with a very nice, well built carry bag! You can't go wrong for shooting stills and you will NOT be disappointed with this set-up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This one does it all After years of searching for a stable tripod with lots of features at a decent price, finally I purchased the Alta Pro 263AGH. This is the answer to my requirements for both birding and macro imaging. The combination of multi-angle column & 3-angle legs allows me to shoot from just about any angle and height I can handle. The pistol-grip ball head supports my 8 pound camera/lens combo with absolute support and rigidity. The adjustable friction control lets me set whatever friction level is needed without concerns about slippage. The quick-release plate is the most reliable one I've ever used. With all of the features I want incorporated into one sturdy tripod, I have no problem with the slightly increased weight. This one is a definite keeper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I don't expect to replace this one! I am a graphics teacher at the high school level. We usually go through a few of the cheap tripods each year... plastic breaks, aluminum legs bend, stuff happens. I am now done replacing them because I plan on only buying these tripods. They are incredibly strong, have great build quality, and are extremely versatile. Being able to switch from portrait to landscape is very handy. It is a little on the heavy side, but I think that makes it stronger and more stable. The ballhead is smooth, and only requires one hand to reposition. I really like how the quick-release plate can snap in without touching the tripod, and it is square, so there is no right or wrong direction to put it on.
