The Cold Shoe Mount from Vello is a standard cold shoe mount with a 1/4" thread on the bottom. It can be used for mounting shoe mount accessories to a bracket, tripod, lightstand, or any accessory that features a 1/4"-20 screw. Unlike a hot shoe, the cold shoe has no electronic connection to a camera - it's used simply to hold an accessory.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WORKS AS ADVERTISED A pretty simple and inexpensive product that does what it is supposed to do. I also have Canon 600EX-RT speedlites and must disagree with previous negative reviews about them not being compatible with this cold shoe as to the speedlite's weather protection skirt around its foot. While the skirt makes snug contact with the cold shoe, I've had no problems whatsoever with the insertion or removal of the 600 EX-RT speedlite or in risking any damage to anything. Insert the speedlite's foot carefully, straight in, and remove it the same way. In fact, I like the snug fit between the weather skirt and the cold shoe; all the better to seal out any moisture or debris that might find its way there and to help hold the speedlite firmly in place. I will buy more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fine addition to large-format cameras. I used this cold shoe on the top frame of my Horseman L45 to provide a mount for my flash radios. Previously, I was taping said radios to the tripod leg, which was a poor solution for a lot of reasons. This thing wasn't a bolt-on, but nothing I could find fit the bill perfectly. With a drilled and countersunk bolt hole, it attached securely and non-permanently, without mucking about with glue or tape. It would be nice if the shoe included a divot near the front for the locking pins included on lots of modern flashes. Easy to add for the DIY-inclined user. But that's my only gripe. Large format cameras always take a little extra work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Recommended for lighter items like LED lights First off, this works. It's a great way convert a 1/4 screw into a cold shoe mount for items like monitors and lights. I only gave it four stars, however, as it's made of plastic. (the screw thread, however, is metal) It seems very strong, but I'd be hesitant mounting very heavy things to it. I use it on some light stands to make mounting LED lights easier. For light LED lights, it's PERFECT. I've also used it to mount a 7 monitor and it worked flawlessly. So if you need something for lighter items, use this. If you want something for HEAVY lights, etc., I wouldn't recommend this particular item.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for the 600EX-RT The Canon 600EX-RT's weather sealed foot has made it incredibly difficult to find a plastic cold shoe that will fit it's foot and have the foot lock to the shoe. I have tried a Frio and it took considerable leverage to get the foot to lock and unlock from the shoe and it was nearly impossible to remove - it felt like i was going to break my new $600 flashgun. I saw this and felt that the design would let the weather sealing wrap around the edges and be much easier to lock and remove. I was wrong. this shoe experiences the same issues as the Frio. very disappointed. The Canon stand that comes with the 600 is just as easy and free as the shoe on the camera. The shoe on the phottix strato ii is just as free as the camera too. Someone needs to design a cold shoe that's solid, plastic, has a metal 1/4-20 thread and is compatible with the 600-EX-RT. Thought this was it. It wasn't. This does work fine though for most older flashes. I have a Vivitar 285HV and works just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All good I bought a few of cold shoe mounts. The main use was to attach a small video light to my flash bracket. I use a Quantom flash on a camera bracket but sometimes at a wedding reception the lights get turned down so low that the camera has a hard time focusing so I use the video light and adjust the output of the light to make it easy for the camera to focus. I mounted the cold shoe to the bracket with a 1/4 20 allen head bolt. This cold shoe is made well, very light in weight and since it is plastic it stays in place and does not scratch the flash bracket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am going to purchase a few more of these This product is great. I did a DIY aluminum cage/rack to hold camera, recorder, microphones and lights. These little cold shoe mounts make the unit look professional and streamline the setup and take-down time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome little bit of gear you did not know you needed! Going to buy more! I use NON-action cameras (Sony A6500 with a 10-18 lens) when I am out riding my bike through the Santa Monica mountains. I have it on a GoScope pole, but if I want to add anything else, I need an additional cold shoe mount. Tap a 1/4/-20 hole, drop in a stud, screw this on and you are ready to go. Or, any 1/4-20 mount for anything additional you may want to use and just did not think of! These are great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice cold shoe. Even though it's made of plastic, it has a metal 1/4 threads underneath. Works with my Nikon flash.
