Panasonic DMW-LVF2 overview

  • 1Description

The Panasonic External Electronic Viewfinder for DMC-LX7 AND DMC-GX1 is an optional viewfinder for the DMC-LX7 or DMC-GX1 Micro 4/3 camera. Just mount this on the camera's hot shoe, and you've got a superb 1,440,000-dot equivalent color viewfinder image, with all of the same information that's displayed on the LCD screen. It displays 100% of the image, and works particularly well in bright sunlight (always tough on LCD displays). The viewfinder also tilts up 90° to make low-angle shots easier than ever. Because it mounts on the camera's hot shoe, it can't be used with a shoe-mounted flash on the camera.

    Panasonic DMW-LVF2 reviews

External Electronic Viewfinder for DMC-LX7 AND DMC-GX1 is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 134.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very useful yet bad finishing A must-have tool to complement your GX1 or LX7. The image is very bright and clear and very useful when taking outdoor photos under the bright sunlight. It makes the camera a bit bulky, but I don't mind it with my GX1. Overall it is still a pretty compact camera. My only concern is the quality of the finishing. The build quality of the item is firm enough, but the painting can easily peeled off. Mine started showing some peeling marks after two months of regular use, revealing the aluminium surface underneath the black painting. In terms of usage, this is a 5-star item but a big no-no in terms of its finishing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Now I can see in bright sunlight! The lack of a viewfinder on a LX7 or most any point and shoot no matter how expensive is a tremendous detriment. You can get used to a LCD screen sooner or later--but shooting in bright sunlight and not knowing what you are getting is not for me. This is the answer for my LX7! Brilliant and sharp. The problem is that it adds significant bulk to the camera partially defeating the utility of the camera's near pocket size . One other gripe -- the supplied pouch case is quite a disappointment compared with the hard case supplied with the LVF1. The LVF1 does not work of the LX7-just as well as the image it produces pales in comparison to that of the LVF2 herein reviewed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent addition I have found the LX-7 one of the best little cameras to take anywhere...social affairs, trips, etc. However, like all LED based cameras without a viewfinder, shooting in bright light can be a problem. This viewfinder solved that problem. I have no idea why I waited so long to get it. I know that these point and shoot cameras have come a long way since I bought this one, but I found that if you get a good one initially, they will last several generations of newer cameras. Look for the big jump in quality, convenience and easy of handling before moving up to a newer camera...these cameras are getting better, just not cheaper.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent; as good as the OM-D's, too Three features make it unique in the world of clip-on EVFs: 1. It locks on (a tab to the side releases it) so it will stay on being put in and being pulled out of a bag 2. The diopter adjustment is underneath the viewing part, so it can't be accidentally bumped AND it's big enough for a normal human hand to operate! 3. It tiltsthis makes it just as useful for me as a foldout screen for interior shots. And, visually, and testing side-by-side with an OM-D, the quality of the display looks the same to me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice, handy in bright light, but bulky I am old school, and like to use a viewfinder. The option of having one is one of the reasons I bought an LX-7. I had an LX-5 with the predecessor viewfinder to this one and liked both a lot, so had no problems upgrading. The new viewfinder is much brighter with much higher resolution, but is also much bigger than the prior model, which is incompatible with the LX-7. That said, the viewfinder is terrific in bright daylight, and its ability to swivel 90 degrees vertically is often quite handy. Switching between the viewfinder and the rear screen of the camera is done by clicking on the button just below the viewfinder screen. Others have complained that it's not automatic when you put your eye up to it, but I don't find that an issue at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive, but worth it I've had this viewfinder on my new GX1 for only one day, but immediately fell in love with it. I'm sending it back only because my copy has an annoying defect - a small scratch that appears to be on an internal element of the device - but I will immediately repurchase it for a hopefully more pristine copy. The ability to tilt the viewfinder up to 90 degrees and to remove it from the camera when traveling makes it far more flexible than electronic viewfinders that are permanently attached to their camera bodies. If, like me, you struggle with using an LCD to compose in bright sunlight, you'll find this to be an indispensible tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DMC-LVF2 I've only hand my DMC-LX7 camera for a short time and I'm learning how to use it under different situations. The addition of the DMC-LFV2 viewfinder is a really nice feature I've found. I'm an old school shooter and being able to bring the camera up to my eye just feels more natural than framing with the LCD screen. The view finder is bright and displays all the information you'd find on the LCD screen. It also let you view images you've already taken on the screen which is a handy feature. I'm very pleased with my electronic viewfinder and feel like it was worth the price I paid for it. It does add bulk to the camera, but it can easily be removed if I choose to carry the camera around in a jacket pocket, like when I go skiing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A most valuable accessory I prefer the view through the EVF most of the time over the screen. No longer do I have to put on glasses to read the camera status information. The finder can be tilted from zero to 90 degrees which, in many cases, is a superior alternative to articulation of the screen. The finder image is immune to being washed out by sunlight. The viewfinder shows the exact area that is taken, it is bright and permits reliable setting of the focus. Cons? In dim light the image structure becomes a little grainy, and the touch controls work only with the screen.
