Redrock Micro 8-090-0001 Overview

The Redrock Micro LiveLens MFT Active Lens Mount is the first active lens adapter allowing Canon EF lenses to be used with any micro four-thirds (MFT) camera, including the Panasonic AG-AF100, Panasonic GH 1/2, and Olympus PEN cameras. A 9V battery and power cable are included.

Canon EF lenses need power and electronic controls to adjust aperture. Without them, aperture is stuck wide open, severely limiting the usefulness of the lens. The Redrock LiveLens MFT presents a solution to the problem, delivering power to the EF lens and a control pad enabling aperture adjustment. Using the LiveLens MFT, you are able to set the EF lens aperture to any stop in increments as small as 1/3 or 1/5, depending upon the lens. The adapter is compatible with virtually every EF lens on the market today, including variable aperture zoom, prime, consumer-level and professional L-series lenses. It also works with the majority of third party EF-compatible lenses.

Whereas standard "dummy adapters" only physically mount EF lenses to the Micro Four Thirds body, the LiveLens MFT communicates with the lens, giving you the power to adjust aperture without using time-consuming workarounds on set. Quit working around the ability of your lenses, and start making your lenses work for you.

Great device

I use this to set the iris on my EF lenses that I am using with several MFT bodies (AF100, GH3, GH4). I have been looking at this for some time but was reluctant to purchase it due to the high cost for such a simple device. Once it went on sale I snapped it up! Works great and easy to use. The only reason I gave it 4 starts instead of 5 is because I don't like the battery pack hanging off the unit via a cable. I would like to see another option of the power. Other than that it works great and I have no complaints. This will save you from using a Canon or similar camera body to change the iris on an EF lens, putting on your MFT or otherwise no-control body, getting ready to film only to discover you made the wrong calculation regarding iris (DOF, light, etc.).

Works as it says it does

For those looking for an active mft mount to control the aperture of your non mft mount lenses, this is a great solution. I'moinly giving it 3 stars for the following: it feels cheap for the price tag and changing the battery can feel like a hassle (felt like I was going to break the battery compartment because there's almost no space to snap the battery into place). Other than those two issues, I am actually satisfied with the product. Just make sure you have something to mount the line and battery pack to as it can be a nuance if not mounted properly.

question

Is this compatible with the Blackmagic Design 4K Studio Camera?
Asked by: Peter P.
This adapter is compatible with any camera that has a Micro 4/3 mount, which the BMD Studio Camera 4k has. This should work fine with it.

question

Can this be used with the GH4?
Asked by: James A.
I originally got this for my gh4 and honestly it was pretty janky for the price. I returned it and got the metabones speedbooster instead. No regrets.

question

I'd like to power this from an Anton Bauer power tap. Is there a cable out there to do that? Or do I need a custom one? What is that connector called?
Asked by: Anonymous
It's a lemo connector. Not sure of the exact type or pinouts used. You could try asking redrock micro directly.

question

Does this adapter also deliver the power for in-lens image stabilization? Does anybody have experience with IS-EF-lenses?Thanks!
Asked by: Anonymous
Hello and thanks for the question. liveLens supports only aperture adjustment, it does not support IS.

question

Does this work with the Micro 4/3 Active Lens Mount on the BMD Studio Camera HD? I want to be able to control the zoom of my EF lens from my BMD switcher.
Asked by: Peter P.
Hi PeterIf you are looking for something to control zoom remotely, we may have a different product for you. This liveLens is for aperture control of EF lenses when attached to micro 4/3 mounts that don't have electronics. It does not do zoom or other lens functions.I recommend you check out our microRemote system. you can gear the zoom ring and control it wirelessly up to 1 mile away. hit us up at [email protected] if we didn't understand your question or would like to discuss it furtherthanks- hope that helps!
