OConnor O-Focus DM overview

  • 1Description

The OConnor O-Focus Dual Mini Photo Set is a follow focus system equipped with a Hard Stop Handwheel and designed double-sided to optionally also accommodate a Cine Handwheel.

The Dual Mini attaches to a lens by sliding dovetail and is adjustable thus to various lens diameters. Its main bridge is very low-profile and has a gear drive ratio of 1:0.75, which produces 270° of rotation for every 360° that the handwheel is turned, and which hence affords longer, more exacting pull on limited rotation still lenses.

The Hard Stop wheel features a transmission ratio of 1:1 and so maintains the gear driver's longer pull. The wheel offers also the benefit of setting minimum and maximum focus points for infinite rotation lenses, and of performing hard stop pulls, and, moreover, of an on/off switch it has that at the employ of a hand instantly disengages end stops so that important adjustments can be made during sudden moments in a scene.

The Dual Mini is made of lightweight, durable black anodized aluminum. Its bridge can be used with an included LWS rod bridge, or, optionally, with 15/19mm studio rod systems, and also with interchangeable gears, and with a handwheel extension. Its low-profile design with no swing arm and with a direct-drive gear box is ideal for large barrel diameter lenses.

OConnor O-Focus DM reviews

O-Focus Dual Mini Photo Set is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality, Quality, Quality I have an NEX-FS100 and I purchased this for it's ability to use as a follow focus for studio work and as a zoom control when I'm running ENG style. The kit lens that came with the NEX-FS100 has a great auto focus feature but was very cumbersome to zoom smoothly while on the go. The O-Focus Dual Mini Photo Set is a quality item with a solid build and precision to detail - like the pull to ratchet clamp lever and 2-way rotating rail clamp - brilliant. I am blown away by this ease of use of this product and can't wait to add the Cine dial in the future. In the photo below I am using a Movcam adjustable 0.8 pitch strap gear on the lens barrel and I am using the small 0.8 gear that is included with the O-Focus Dual Mini photo Set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly Recommended I'm coming from an Arri MFF-2 which was smooth, but not great. The build quality on O-Connor is much better than the Arri. Focus is smooth and the gear ratio really does improve photo lens throw. I have a set of Zeiss ZE primes and it extents the range on those as well as all my Canon L series primes. Focusing is much more precise and there's not a lot of resistance like the Arri. I have yet to try it with any cine housings though. I'm really impressed with how smooth this follow focus is, that's really all it needs to do and the O-Connor works great. I've owned almost every follow focus out there and it's been really frustrating to get one that works right up until this one.
