Sirui S-1205-N overview

  • 1Description

Sirui's S-1205-N Carbon Fiber Tripod weighs 2.2 lb and can support up to 26.4 lb. The S-1205-N has individual leg spreading capability for low angles or uneven terrain. Besides the standard center column a short center column is included which allows the tripod to squat way down. And it reverses for even lower perspectives. The icing on the cake is a removable leg that converts to a monopod. And when the shoot is over the S-1205-N won't take up much space either. It folds flat to a mere 1.6" thick.

8 Layers of Carbon Fiber for Superior Load Capacity
The use of 100% carbon fiber and 8 cross pattern layers makes Sirui tripods and monopods capable of supporting impressive load capacities, while providing a lightweight product. In addition to providing high strength and low weight, carbon fiber is also highly resistant to temperature changes, friction (no need for lubrication) and corrosion.
Custom Anodized Surface Treatment
All Sirui products undergo a special anodized surface treatment that makes any metal surfaces highly resistant to wear and increases durability and weather resistance. Anodizing is an environmentally safe electrochemical process. This also prepares the surface to provide better adhesion of colored finishes.
Temperature Tolerance Test
Photographers often work in extreme environments, like blazing deserts or sub-zero mountaintops. It is vital that your equipment works under these conditions. That is why all of these products are "torture-tested" under conditions that far exceed what most people will ever experience: -40 - 212°F (-40 - 100°C).
Certified Longevity Tests for Quality and Reliability
To confirm the quality and reliability of Sirui tripods (and dedication to details), an independent testing lab (SGS) subjected the leg angle lock spring mechanisms to exhaustive longevity tests. The test reports show that even after 100,000 actuations, the springs continued to perform perfectly.
Short Center Column
Allows low angle shooting for unique perspectives and macro photography.
Precision Leg Tubes
The difference in diameter of leg tubes is only 3mm from tube to retracted tube. Thanks to precision manufacturing, the legs open and close easily, while the small diameter difference provides added leg stability.
Half-turn Leg Locks
To lock the legs of Sirui tripods/monopods, twisting locks are utilized for maximum reliability and stability. Simply twist the rubber leg locks 1/2 turn and the legs will extend by themselves.
Unique Locking System
The Sirui S-N series tripods have a unique leg position locking system that clicks in place when the tripod is opened. This guarantees that the tripod legs will be properly positioned -providing a rugged, stable support for your equipment. Simply open the tripod in the direction of the arrows until it clicks into place. When you're done shooting, press the red unlock button and close the tripod flat.
Non-Twist Center Column/Legs
All Sirui center columns and legs have keyed, grooved channels that prevent twisting, providing additional stability and safety for your photographic equipment.
Converts to Monopod
The detachable leg lets you transform your tripod into a monopod, reducing the amount of equipment you need to carry and makes your camera bag or backpack lighter.

    Sirui S-1205-N reviews

S-1205-N Carbon Fiber Tripod is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good travel tripod I've just received my new Sirui S-1205-N tripod with the Sirui G-10X head. My goal was to get a travel lightweight tripod that would support my Canon 7D with the Canon 17-55 lens. I'm pleased with what I've seen so far, though there was one surprise. The tripod is everything as described. It has the rotating legs that allow for packing flat. The legs can be positioned so that the center is low to the ground. One of the legs converts to a monopod for the longer hikes (the mount on the top of the center post needs to be removed and put on the top of the leg). The legs all have positive stops so there's no guessing where things belong. I chose the recommended Sirui G-10X head for the tripod to keep the weight down, without compromising on the ability to hold the camera in place. My tests at home indicate it will be sufficient. I like the Manfrotto head a little more because the clip-on plate is a little faster for mount/dismount of the camera, but then there's a weight and height penalty. It looks like the G-10X is a similar design to many other heads so I'll keep what I have. The one surprise was that the weight of both the tripod and head are not what I expected. When reading the specs I expected a total of 2.87 (2.2 + 0.67) lbs, but when weighed with the kitchen scales I found them to be 3.23 (2.53 + 0.70) lbs. The head weight is close enough to call even but it appears that the tripod is off by about a 0.33 of a pound. Because the features and because the cost was $ less than the S-2205-N, I will overlook this minor infraction.I also have a Manfrotto 190XPROB tripod that has served me well. I expect to keep it because the extra weight can help keep the camera steady, and because the center column can pivot 90 degrees for additional photo options. The S-1205-N appears to be very similar to the S-2205-N, except that it has smaller diameter legs and less weight. There was a review I found that was looking at the S-2205-N, where the reviewer said he felt the leg diameter felt big, so I thought the S-1205-N would be a good choice. The load capacity is identical between the two; I'm a little skeptical of that, but I won't be pushing it any time soon so I'm fine with it.The tripod + head fits my 5' 9 height well, though anyone 6' 0 or over might need to bend down a little. Based on other reviews, a benefit of Sirui products appears to be excellent manufacturing with good value and I've been happy with what I've seen so far. Everything fits and moves with minimal effort, without any binding.
