Vanguard Heralder 33 overview

  • 1Description

The black Heralder 33 Bag from Vanguard is a get-around bag designed for the photographer/videographer who doesn't have much time to fumble around retrieving gear from his bag. It's designed to hold a bevy of gear - 1-2 pro DSLRs, one with grip, 5-6 lenses (up to 70-200mm f/2.8); plus a laptop up to 13.0" (33.0 cm) wide screen size that is held in its own separate compartment, numerous accessories and a tripod neatly held in its own sling.

The polyester exterior material is rated weather-proof but the bag comes with a removable rain cover that can be quickly deployed if you're outside and the weather turns against you. Inside, there is more polyester that is complimented by a gentle velvet material that won't hurt the finish of your gear. The shoulder strap is anti-slip in design, comfortable, padded and removable. There's also a top carry handle for added convenience.

Access to your gear is easy. The bag comes with a removable pouch that permits you to pre-pack your gear and just slip it inside the bag. When not needed, just remove the pouch and the bag becomes usable for other purposes with its expanded storage space. The Heralder has a Quick Top Access Zipper that exposes the interior for rapid removal of your camera when you need it. No more missing shots because you have to struggle to unbuckle dual front couplers. Just unzip the top, remove your DSLR or camcorder, get the shot, replace the equipment, re-zip and you're off to your next shot.

Your tripod is held in its own sling and readily accessible for long exposures or long lenses. All of these features make this bag a perfect choice for the photo and video journalist who needs a bag that is easy to pack, carry and use.

    Vanguard Heralder 33 reviews

The Heralder 33 Bag (Black) is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Room for Everything. I wanted a multi-purpose bag for travel. I wanted to be able to carry it comfortably, access it easily, and for it to fit my gear with extras. I like that I can access the bag through a zipper on top, my 70-200 lens attached to my camera fits perfectly, the strap is nicely padded, there is a tripod holder, my lap top fits and it has a rain cover. I will not use it as an everyday carry around bag...I still use a messenger for that but I will use it for air travel in that it is small enough for a carry on (with tripod stored in checked luggage). I will also use it to transport my gear to shoots. I purchased a small portable luggage cart to roll the bag when practical. The bag has a strap on the back of the bag that easily slips over the cart on top of another piece of luggage. I researched many bags, rollers, backpacks, etc but this bag seems to have almost everything I required. The only improvement would be to add a zipper pocket on the exterior of the flap and to have dual zippers on top for easier access.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I found my daily companion! I was looking for months for a camera messenger bag in with top access, built in tripod sling and a compartment for my tablet pc. With the Heralder 33 bag I found finally what I was looking for. The bag is very well made and has a tons of space for all my gear. I have a Panasonic GH4 and up to four lenses and accessories like filters, battery charger, tablet computer in this bag. Be aware that you overload the bag easily and you have to carry around lots of weight on your shoulder. For longer trips I would go with a back-pack but 90% of the time the Heralder is my companion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Would buy again Bought this bag at B&H needed it for a flight I was taking. It worked out well as a carry on no problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Versital Case I like the top access, the removable sleeve for my 13 Mac Book Pro, the other removable sleeves and the roominess. The top access results in the handle being off center and carrying it by the handle a little awkward. I wanted a bag big enough for the 13 Mac Book but they all seem really larger than my ideal. Life is always a series of compromises. I carry at least two cameras, at least four lenses and flash. It has a rain cover and can carry a tripod.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ok for casual photographer One positive is that it is very well padded for protecting camera equipment while traveling but not for everyday use. It is difficult to access camera equipment quickly from the deep bag. Heralder 33 would make a better laptop bag for a business traveler than an everyday camera bag. I wasted money on the Heralder since I really don't need storage for my lenses. My last bag was a backpack-style Lowepro and I'm going back for a new Lowepro.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality bag great price Love this for my D7100 with battery grip attached, 70-200f2.8, 50mm and 24-70 f2.8. Still have room for speed lights chargers and filters. I am also able to attach a full size tripod with the external straps.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks good but don't bother The bag looks good but the handle is awkward and in a bad location. When you hold the bag, its lopsided. I would have returned it but didn't have time. Don't bother!!
