    Watson EN-EL3E reviews

    EN-EL3e Lithium-Ion Battery Pack (7.4V, 1450mAh) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 152.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for After alternating between the OEM Nikon battery and the Pearstone EN-EL3e battery 8 months, I can say that the Pearstone is aging more quickly, charging to only 89% compared to 98% according to my D90, and discharging more rapidly, especially once its charge level drops below 50%. It's still useful as a backup battery, but if your budget can afford it, the Nikon battery would appear to be the better deal in the long run.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Doesn't charge or hold charge well When new, the max charge my D700 would indicate was 88%. After a few months of use, it's max (straight out of the charger) is 86%. Under normal temperature usage, the D700 indicates it is at 50% in less than a hundred pictures. In colder weather (low to mid 30s F), I got less that ninety frames before flat-lining and the camera would not turn on. Typically I get at most a couple of hundred frames before it's low enough I feel compelled to change it. I typically swap and recharge almost every night to keep both batteries topped off. In normal conditions (temp mid 50s to low 60s F) with the OEM Nikon battery of the same age, after more than 500 frames I still have more than 40% power left. It's much cheaper than the OEM, but to get similar number of pics you'd need at least 5X as many of them. The battery claims on its label 1700 mAh, but I don't think I'm getting anywhere near that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Update on previous purchase After talking with the manufacture and discussing my issues, they shipped me a replacement battery from their stock which was a newer lot number. Apparently the one from B&H was older and as we all know sometimes the life of the battery goes away with age and no use? The replacement battery is working just fine after 2 days of shooting it has recharged and ran great! I can only hope that the other battery that I had bought in July doesn't give me any trouble even though it was from the same lot number as the first and second battery B&H sent, different from the latest one from Watson. If it holds up, I would not hesitate to purchase this battery again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from About the same, but not the same I just bought two of these to back up and replace my original Nikon battery packs that are aging on the D200 w/ the 2-battery rack MB-D200. They are way too slow to charge up using the Nikon original charger M+18a. Over 3 hours per battery to get a mere 90-95% charge. Is it the 1,450 vs. 1,500 mAh capacity? I will try a deep discharge several times to improve the situation, but on this specific point they do not compare to the original. The number of shots per battery load sounds comparable at about 350. I am using a Speedlight SB-800, not much the builtin flash.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Nikon EN-EN3e replacement without the price! The Watson version of the Nikon EN-EL3e is a real winner in terms of replacement batteries. Many aftermarket camera batteries are sketchy at best, but since B&H stands behind this product I decided to try it out. I was floored by its performance. I was still using the original battery from my Nikon D300s when I got this for the MB-D10 battery grip, and I hadn't realized how the years had taken their toll on the old Nikon battery. The new Watson far outperforms the aged OEM battery for $15 less. I cannot recommend this battery option enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Batteries! I have a D200 with a battery grip. When one of the Nikon batteries died, I tried one of these batteries the instead of the original Nikon ones. It charged the same, (100% on D200's battery meter). I also charged the Nikon at the same time and after a few days the Pearstone was still at 100%. The Nikon (4 years old) was at 97%. The Pearstone seems to perform slightly better than the 4 year old Nikon (as one would expect). After using it for a while, as far as I can tell, the only difference between the Pearstone and the Nikon is that the former costs 40% less.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not as reliable as the original A fully charged battery lost its charge while in the camera for about a week whether the camera (a D700) was powered on or off and whether I took photos or not. The Nikon battery doesn't do this. I needed spare batteries for a trip away from power sources and decided that the greater cost of the Nikon battery was worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for the Money The battery has performed flawlessly thus far. I bought this as a back-up for my Nikon EN-EL3e which was and has been out of stock due to the Tsunami. Although I have only had it briefly, it has performed as advertised and I would recommend it especially if in a pinch. I, myself prefer to use the manufacturers betteries whenever possible, but as an emergency back-up, I have no concerns thus far. It charges and performs very close to the Nikon version.
