Sennheiser HD 700 overview

  • 1Description

The HD 700 Stereo Headphones from Sennheiser are focused on delivering the most pure audio reproduction possible. The headphones have angled transducers that mimic the positioning of a set of reference monitor speakers. This angling, along with the DuoFol transducers, provides a wide sound stage with incredibly fast response and rest times.

The headphones also have a patent-pending ventilated magnet system. By venting the magnet behind the diaphragm, airflow is properly managed to minimize turbulence and distortion. The outer chassis has an open-aire design with a special steel mesh to maintain purity while properly directing airflow. The final piece of the puzzle is the vibration dampening frame, which prevents unwanted resonances from entering the acoustic chamber. The result is audio that is balanced, natural, and detailed.

The headphones have thick cushions that fit around the ears, plus an adjustable headband so you can listen in comfort for hours at a time. The extra-long cable provides plenty of slack, ideal for listening at home or in a studio. The 1/4" stereo plug connects to a variety of A/V receivers, stereo systems, and other devices. The headphones arrive to you in a luxurious storage box to protect the headphones when they're not in use.

    Sennheiser HD 700 reviews

HD 700 Stereo Headphones is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Deep bass, crisp highs but parts of the midrange is missing. Subjective: The Good: Extremely comfortable. Open airy sound with nice deep lows. At first, they sound excellent. The Bad: Something funky going on with the mid range. Deep House sounds great, female vocals like Adele or Sade sound a bit off. Objective: Calibrated UMIK and REW measurements seem to back up upper mid range anomaly heard. http://imgur.com/udEvKNX

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Performer Bass is good enough to handle any rock and roll. Midrange is outstanding. The notes in individual chords are clearly distinct as are the different instruments. Complex and loud sounds are not a distorted blob, but are the sum of many clear and identifiable parts. Excellent for classical music.Comfort is excellent.Soundstage is excellent. You will not get your money's worth unless you use them with an amplifier.I would not pay $$for them (which was once their price) but at B&Hs price, an excellent buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent albeit pricey purchase I am a bit of a newbie audiophile, and my journey of headphones has been from Sennheiser HD 448 -> HD 380 Pro -> Hd700. The first difference has been that these are open-cans which make the sound more like a concert, and I guess even a cheaper HD 598 would have given me that feel. Having said that, these cans paired with a Schiit Vali 2 amp (launched recently) and a Meridian Explorer DAC is giving me a lot of joy. Its a little pricey and it was a leap of faith to make that purchase but I am quite happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great I would say I'm somewhat of an audiophile and have a really good ear, but not all headphones are made for everyone. I also own the HD650 so to compare, the HD700 has a much wider sound stage and bass that is not as dark as the HD650. The highs on the HD700 are really high and it does cause a bit of a headache after a while - from a nice amp you will get an amazing sound reproduction. Also your source matters and I tried Tidal FLAC and also my own collection of flac CD and higher end audio, and it's a beautiful soundstage. I would say I kind of prefer the HD650 for certain things but the HD700 is not a own and be happy forever kind of headphone. Also not to mention how comfortable it is, probably the most comfortable headphone I've used. It is also an open-headphone - you will bother others when you listen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing, you won't know you have them on... I am a member of Head-fi and several other audio related sites and read about headphones and associated gear as a hobby. I did quite a bit of research before buying my HD 700s from B&H Photo. From reading online reviews to YouTube videos, I spent three months in search of a new open back set of headphones. When I saw the price drop on these from B&H I had to pull the trigger. I have made many purchases over the years of photography equipment from them and knew I was doing business with a fantastic outfit. They arrived very quickly with their free expedited shipping to me and I could not wait to open them up and plug them in. I have made mistakes in buying different audio and other related equipment in the past, but that was not the case for these cans! They are simply jaw dropping to my ears. I own several other high-end headphones, some are even at a higher cost, and I can tell you, these are probably my favorite of all of them. Deep sub base from an open headphone that is right where it is supposed to be, tight and concise. The mids, oh man, so smooth and silky, you can hear the the lips of Diana Krall loosen as she takes a breath between verses. The highs have sparkle and air that is hard to describe without a hint of simblance or harshness other pro reviewers have described.. Like many of you I do not have a place to audition high end gear, so I must rely on reviews I read or watch. Trust me in these, they are indeed amazing and after one minute, you will not know you are wearing them, they are indeed the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. Buy them from B&H and you will happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy the Sennheiser HD700s again. I own a pair of Sennheiser HD650s, and loved them, but time has taken a toal on them, and parts needed to restore them are not available. So I did some research, and found that the Sennheiser HD700s are close in performance to the HD650s, and so I ordered them from B & H. When I first connected them to my system and heard their sound I was pleasantly surprised. Not only did the have a sound similar to the HD650s but I found the staging to be much wider, and somewhat more detailed. WOW! I was happy with my selection. However, I do have one complaint. After using the HD700s you cannot coil the cable. Believe me, I've tried. Howeve thay are made, the cable retaines the bends or curves that were created when they are packaged. This does no affect the performance of the HD700s, it's just frustrating when putting them away. Other than that I have no complaint with these headphones, and highly recomend them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love them! Coming from the HD600 and HD650, these are great! Wider soundstage, deeper bass, more detail. I love them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding! Thank you Sennheiser. These HD700's are outstanding. I am an old timer with worn our ears. My sound recording engineer son recommended these. Now I understand how these conductors hear every instrument. Wow! The only way to listen to my old cd's. Yes, a lot of great head sets, but for under $500, these are the ones for me.
