  • Sigma APO 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Lens for Canon EF

Renowned for its versatility, the Canon EF-mount APO 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM from Sigma is a telephoto zoom lens covering a useful portrait-length to medium telephoto range. Characterized by its bright f/2.8 constant maximum aperture, this lens excels in difficult lighting conditions and also affords flexible depth of field control for isolating focus. Featuring an apochromatic designation, this lens's optical design employs a series of low dispersion elements to virtually eliminate chromatic aberrations and color fringing for high clarity and color accuracy. A multi-layer coating is also used to control ghosting and flare for improved contrast when working in bright and backlit conditions.

Balancing the optics, a Hyper Sonic Motor affords quick and quiet autofocus performance while an Optical Stabilizer minimizes the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. Additionally, a removable, rotating tripod collar is included to better support working with the lens atop a tripod or monopod.

Telephoto zoom is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 112-320mm equivalent focal length range.
Constant f/2.8 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also provides greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.
Apochromatic optical design utilizes two F Low Dispersion (FLD) elements and three Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements to significantly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for increased clarity and color fidelity.
Multi-layer coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM), along with an internal focusing design, realizes quick and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.
Optical Stabilizer system minimizes the appearance of camera shake to benefit making sharper imagery when shooting handheld.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
A removable, rotating tripod collar offers well-balanced support for photographing atop a tripod or monopod with either vertical or horizontal shooting orientations.
Compatible with optional APO 1.4x EX DG and APO 2x EX DG teleconverters.

    Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 reviews

70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG APO OS HSM for Canon EF is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 158.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Lens I hate when people comment about it not matching up to the Canon equivalent. It's like saying I bought a Chrysler but it isn't as good as a Ferrari. Review the lens folks not a comparison with a lens double the price. I have found this lens to be reliable, fast and problem free. it is my first Sigma lens but won't be my last. New 180mm coming up soon. If you are one of those who need people to think you are a real photographer with white L lens then move along... nothing to see here. If you want a great lens that works well, focuses fast and from my experience has a great keep percentage this lens won't let you down. I am a pro photographer (well I get paid and it is my main job so does that make me a pro?) and I use this lens a lot. Leave your Canon ego at the door and buy this lens, you won't regret it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Superb Lens for the Price The lens is really a wonderful piece of equipment, and for the price cant be beat. If I had my time over, I would buy it again. having said that there are a couple of things Im not so so happy about. Firstly, the manual focus ring doesnt stop when it reaches infinity. When handholding the lens it is difficult to know when youve reached the farthest focus point as the ring keeps revolving. I really dont like this and wonder why sigma made this the case on this lens??? The only other minor beef I have is that the photo reproduction comes across a little soft, particularly when compared with my other sigma lenses. All is all, a fabulous super telephoto.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Far, Fantastic Lens I'm a true amateur but take 1000's of photos every year. This is my first professional level telephoto zoom. The photos have looked great. I used it several times on our trip to PEI and Maine. The images are crisp. Frankly, a lot better than my new Canon 2.8 17-55 with image stabilization. The Sigma is every bit as quiet as the smaller Canon. For an $1100 savings over the similar Canon, it's an easy choice. Like the Canon, this is a heavy, well-built lense. The package include a lens hood and a great padded carrying case which was handy when taking the extra weight on a hike.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I'll start off by saying this lens is absolutely fantastic for the price. I enjoyed it every time I took it out. The optics in it are great. Very sharp, even wide open. I never really noticed any noticeable CA, even wide open in broad daylight. The Bokeh is very unique and I like it a lot. I would say it has sort of a circular swirl to it. Refer to my attached photo. The autofocus isn't quite Canon USM performance but it's still plenty good. The only real reason i'm upgrading to the Canon IS II is to get that weather sealing and autofocus. Overall Conclusion. If this lens is in your price range. Get it! You will love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Happy I've had the lens for a short time and only had it out once to shoot with. I shot a few indoor shots and mostly outdoor at Keystone ski area during bright sunshine. However, I'm very happy with the results thus far. Very sharp throughout the range. No noticeable vignetting at 70 or 200. Very quiet auto focusing. Great low light performance, which is to be expected at 2.8. Seems to add a color vibrancy I've not seen from my 50D's processor with other lenses. I have not shot the Canon 2.8, but can't imagine for a hobbiest like myself that I could get much better performance for the cost difference. Great job by Sigma and by B&H for the Christmas discount that made the purchase possible. :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wish it was weatherproof This lens is a great buy if you cant spend on the Canon 70-200 L. The image stabilizer can be a bit rough on the video.. but still works a bit. On image quality, o dont find much difference from the Canon L, but dont try it with an extender. The only thing i really hate about this lens is that is not weatherproof. You probably have a weatherproof camera (Like the 7D and up) but with this lens you will not be able to use it under the rain or dusty conditions. Is kinda heavy. Mine gets some errors when i shoot continuous with the 50D but is not a big deal for me. Seems tough on the build.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Looking, Greater Quality! First off, this lens is gorgeous. It's matte black, and looks great on a Canon body. I've always loved the Canon 70-200, but the bright white just didn't look good to me. Perhaps many people love the white, because it's a staple and recognition, but I'm not one of them. I was looking for an alternative to that lens, without losing quality, and I found it here for half the price. This lens has been an incredible tool in my bag, and I've been extremely happy with it. The clarity is sharp, the lens is solid, and it's a perfect lens for any wedding photographer needing that always important 70-200 focal length. I do Video Production, and Photography, and it's been awesome in both.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's a great lens if you're on a budget This lens does a good job. If you've never shot with the actual Canon version of this focal length then you won't know what you're missing. I used the Canon brand 70-200 2.8 IS I for ten years. IT. WAS. AWESOME! Then I broke it so bad that Canon could not repair it. I just couldn't stomach paying the big bucks for another canon lens of this flavor, so I opted for this one. Like I said above, it does a good job. The focus is fast and accurate. the optical stabilization works as well as the canon. I don't feel like any of those things suffer. What I miss are the ergonomics of the Canon lens, but really, that's a trainable preference thing, so I can't knock it for that.
