Azden FMX-32a Overview

The Azden FMX-32A 3-Channel Portable Field Mixer is a portable 3-channel audio mixer designed for professional field audio capturing. The FMX-32A features the same compact design and primary features as the FMX-32, now with the circuit topology of the FMX-42 series mixers. This provides an improved signal to noise ratio and a wider frequency response, ideal for professional applications.

The mixer features a compact and durable metal chassis that can be strapped directly to a camera with the supplied hook-and-loop fastener, or worn around the neck with an optional carrying case. The mixer has 3 balanced XLR microphone inputs with 2 input settings and +48VDC phantom power for use with condenser microphones. Each channel has its own input level control and a switchable limiter. There is also a master level control for adjusting the overall signal.

The mixer has channel-addressable (L-C-R) stereo XLR and mini outputs, plus a 1/4" headphone monitoring jack with its own level control. A 5-step LED array offers visual signal monitoring. The mixer can operate via 6 standard AA batteries for convenient use in the field. It can also be used with the Azden BC-27 12V Adapter, available separately.

FMX-32a - A full-featured, powerful Little Mixer

The Azden FMX-32a is my second Azden mixer. I own, and still use, the earlier, 32 version. As a professional videographer, I shoot videos that often require more than one microphone. An example of these include dance recitals, wedding ceremonies, question and answer lectures, and town and city counsel meetings - to name a few. It goes without saying that wireless microphones are the norm in these situations. The Azden-32a has 3 XLR mic inputs that allow you to control the level of each mic. Output from each input can be assigned to either a Left or right channel by little switches below the level controls. Individual Limiters can be turned On or Off to protect against in-the-red-zone output. While the Azden FMX-32a does provide a headphone input for monitoring the audio, I use the mic input on my video camera to monitor my audio. Output levels are monitored by green, yellow, and red lights The power for the Azden is provided by an easily-accessed little compartment on the top of the mixer and utilizes 6 double A batteries. Electrical power is also possible with the purchase of an additional DC adapter. Dimensions of the unit - Length: 6 1/2 Width 3 1/2 Height: 2, In addition to its superb features, the construction of the Azden. Is top notch quality. And lastly, what I absolutely love about this little guy is how I am able to attach it to my video camera. Keep in mind that I am not using the Azden attached to my video camera in a walk-around shoot. I am attaching it to my camera that is attached to a tri-pod that is attached to wheels (for mobility). How do I attach it to my camera? I purchased a K-Tek Shoe Mount plate. I Attached the plate to the bottom of the Azden FMX-32a with heavy duty Velcro. My mic receivers are attached to a thin wooden plate with Velcro. If you are shooting a job in which you require the ability to use multiple, check out the Azden FMX-32a.

This field mixer fit our needs as a light easy to use mixer for on-location shoots. Good sound quality.

No, the Azden FMX-32a 3-Channel Portable Field Mixer does not have a tone generator. However, the Azden FMX-42a 4-Channel Microphone Field Mixer with 10-Pin Camera Return (B&H # AZFMX42A) and the Azden FMX-42u 4-Channel Microphone Field Mixer with USB Digital Audio Output (B&H # AZFMX42U) do have a tone generator.

Overview suggests that the Azden FMX-32a can operate with an optional 12vdc power supply, but none is listed under Accessories. Will the MG Electronics MGT-125000SPS work with it?
