The Polaroid 43mm Neutral Density Fader Filter is a solid variable neutral density filter providing a reduction of about 1.3 to 8.6 stops. The ND 3x to ND 400x density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, allowing you to previsualize the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.
Variable neutral density filter allows you to dial in differing amounts of density scene to scene.

Multicoated glass filter for optical clarity and color fidelity.
To help minimize vignetting, the front filter thread dimensions are larger than the mounting thread dimensions; for stacking filters, the front thread diameter is 46mm.

Doesn't work in the infraredI'm giving this product a medium rating, despite the fact that I am not able to use it at all! It is clear from visual inspection that this filter is built well and provides the variable fading effect that it advertises. Unfortunately, my intended application was for an infrared camera (890 nm) and it turns out that this filter doesn't attenuate at that frequency range at all. I don't really consider that to be a fault of the product as much as lack of documentation as to what the frequency range was intended to be. I'm keeping it as I'm sure I will find another use for it.

works greatUsed on the LX100. No vignetting. Only Con is the filter gets slightly stuck against the lens when it retracks.

Wide apertures in daylightTake advantage of the limited depth of field with your wide aperture lenses in daylight. This filter allows you to cut down the amount of light to blur backgrounds (or foregrounds) at will. Imagine shooting at f2 at the beach!

Does not work on Canon M-500I purchased this filter to reduce the DOF on my Canon M-500 video camera. The idea is nice but the filter cuts the sharpness badly. Wide open, the problem isn't that apparent. But with a little zoom, the image totally falls apart. I created a YouTube video demonstrating this, check it out.

Suddenly SunnyThe first day our production company had it, it caused a suddenly sunny mid-day shoot to be successful. Variable ND is the only way to go...allows you to change as fast as the weather does.

not for the lx100It makes a black X in the center of the image when using wide angle. It almost works when you zoom but the color is off.
