Vello ESP-DSLR overview

  • 1Description

The ESP-DSLR Eyecup from Vello is a replacement eyepiece for select Pentax cameras that provides a large, oval eyecup for more comfortable viewing through the viewfinder. The large shape of the eyecup improves the image quality in the viewfinder by sealing out all extraneous light. It can rotate 360º to accommodate both the left and right eye and horizontal and vertical shooting positions. The eyecup extends from the viewfinder, blocking stray light and providing a clearer image. The soft yet durable rubber design is comfortable for those who do not wear eyeglasses and will not scratch or damage the glasses of those who do. It mounts easily and securely on the camera's viewfinder.

Compatible with the Following Cameras:
Select Pentax SLR and DSLR cameras; replaces FL, FP, FR, FN, FO eyeshades. Please see your camera's user manual for complete instructions and supported features.

    Vello ESP-DSLR reviews

ESP-DSLR Eyecup for Select Pentax Cameras is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works as advertised This eyeshade works well in blocking light when looking through the veiwfinder with the camera in the landscape (horizontal) mode. It doesn't do as great a job when the camera is rotated to the portrait mode. It is also larger than the factory eyeshade and blocks part of the top of the screen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits right... Fits comfortably with my K50...makes my subject little more clear to see and my nose doesn't poke the screen as much as before with the original eyecup...it's a good piece...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from See Review from June 2018 As stated in my review from June, I had problems with four of the eye cups. To my surprise, someone from Vello contacted me to discuss the issue. It appeared there had been an issue with the mold for the eyecup and because Pentax isn't as widely used, it took longer for the company to notice a problem. Vello replaced the eye cups again. I've been using the eye cup since I received them. I've had no issue so far. The other cups lasted no more than a day or two, it's been over 2 months since I've received them. I'm happy with the cups and even happier that Vello not only took notice of my issue, but rectified it quickly. I'm even happier to see a company support Pentax. I'll keep trying their products as long as they continue to support Pentax. (4 stars only due to limited time use otherwise I'd go 5)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed I purchased 2 of these for each of my camera. Thought they were great until they each broke in the same spot within days of use. . B&H replaced both of them and both broke again. I treat my equipment with care and had them in two different camera bags so it wasn’t my lack of care. I’m out my cash and still have no eye cups after 4 tries.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Helps with stray light I got this not to protect my eye from stray light, but my viewfinder. My Pentax does a horrible job of metering when any light comes directly in through the viewfinder, and while this gizmo doesn't completely solve the problem, it does help substantially.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like it on my K3 I shoot a K-3. Great for bright days. I like how this easily reduces light infiltration from the side into the viewfinder. It is comfortable. Only downside is it intrudes on the top of the LCD screen a little bit. Not a big deal.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Save yourself $20 The eyecup doesn't stay on very securely on the camera. I lost it first day I took it out to shoot!!!! Save your money.... The cup helped block but what good is it if it doesn't stay on?!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eye saver Gives enough space between the eye and the camera so I don't poke with my nose in the screen. Blocks the light well making manual focusing easy.
