    Foscam FI8910W reviews

FI8910W Wireless IP Camera (White) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 113.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Plug & Play... It is 2013, and the engineers writing the software for this thing are still back in the 80's. In their little cubes they get paid to worry about subnet masks, firmware upgrades, entering codes, etc, etc, etc. They get off on that stuff. But customers just wants to plug this thing in and get it to work. I've now spent a week trying to figure out why it runs so intermittently, keeps rebooting, upgrading, resetting, rebooting again, searching help forums, etc. That's not what I get paid to do. The hardware seems fine, but usability sucks. Not sure if I should give up on it yet. But those engineers need to be taken out of their cubes, sprayed with cold water and shown how things work today.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Affordable and Easy Setup I think I did something right in the process of selecting the right camera for my house. Criteria included: 1-Cheap, 2-Can set it myself, 3-No need of expensive softare, 4-Wireless, 5-Can watch it away from home (if I am home I don't need a camera, right?, and most importantly again; 6-Cheap. Read the forums, learn from others and avoid problems. Set 3 units within minutes no hassles. Delivered extremely quick (as usual) from B&H photo, all new equipment.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's an ok camera... First of all I'm sick of seeing fake five star reviews on Amazon with those telling how great the quality is. You just don't know what level of experience these people have. This camera overall is mid line at best and the video as well as the image captures are not even close to where a good security camera should be. The video is 640x480 so its not all that bad for the price, but for a security cam the resolution needs to be bumped up some. Only in sufficient lighting is it possible to make out who the person actual is... given that you already know this person. Imagine if you don't! I bought two of these for securing my home. I don't think they will be of much help, except for maybe a notification via email that my home has been broken into. As far as getting a good description of the intruder I do not think that is possible. Unless this person looks directly into the camera from a few feet away and does not move. In good lighting I think it may be possible from 10-15 feet away and they do not move. Setting up these cameras was a real pain and I've built many computers and set up countless wireless devices. You do need a lot of patience. First make sure your wireless network is opened up so that new devices can see it and it can be seen. The provided IP Camera software is a joke. The process is very simialar to setting up a wireless printer, but if your device does not show up in the provided software while it is hardwired via network cable then you are in for a treat. When in doubt reboot everything before calling support. Oh, by the way... do not call support, email them.I will attach a couple of the bad photos to back up what I'm talking about as far as the video and image quality for security purposes. All in all I think the cams are fun to play with since I can view my home from anywhere in the world via my iphone. Since I selected recommend this to a friend it is only to mess around with as a hobby or add it to an existing good quality surveillance system. I would upload one good quaulity photo, but I'm restricted to just two. The image output with good lighting compares to some of the oldest digital cameras first made at .3 megapixels.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value I purchased two of these cameras to use as baby monitors and they work perfectly. You have to be willing to do a little work to get them set up, but the tutorial videos on the Foscam website give you everything you need to know, except a few specifics related to your ISP. I now have them set up in each kid's room and access via iOS (using the Foscam Pro app) or via web browser. The remote pan and tilt allow me to find my 3yo if she's out of her bed and the two-way audio is great for getting her back in bed. I got way more features than most baby monitors for a lot less money. No complaints here!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from tech help no help I installed camera and it went well till I left location. When on the road could not access camera.Had same problem with 1st camera installed in July had to make a return trip ( 200 mile one way) to have Foscam tech reset camera. When I installed the 2nd camera I ask the Foscam tech if he could view it? He told me he could access on the internet and he told me I could only access it on the LAN till I leave that Location.Explaining to him the trouble I had with the 1st camera he assured me I'd have no trouble.WELL here I am 200 miles away and after 1 hour in que to talk to a tech and then after an hour oftalking and tring diferent things I was informed I had to go back to the location of the camera and call Foscam tech support. Camera is great ,support not.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for the money, but has bugs. After a complicated setup I was able to view this ip Camera remotely and control it via Droid phone. The software needs an update as it is not as refined as it should be. The audio coming from the camera suffers from Electromagnetic Interference coming from the power supply cord. It's loaded with static. I will attach ferrite cores to the cameras power cord to see if this helps. The picture is good for a $100 camera and the IR night vision works. The motion email alerts only send four images and will not send another email for about 40 seconds. No tweaking of these settings in the software increased its frequency. Since the beginning the camera self reboots several times per day. No response to customer support yet on this one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Firmware encourages huge security hole Hardware works as advertised, at a price that's hard to beat. Installation is hobbled by poorly designed firmware. But the biggest problem is that the manual (and many internet sites) encourage you to enable external remote access to the camera by enabling port-forwarding to the camera's HTTP server. If you do this there are two big problems: 1. Your internal network's security is reduced to the weak link that is the IP camera's firmware. 2. Each time you log in to the camera's firmware, it *downloads all the settings over HTTP, in cleartext*. That includes any Wifi password you setup, or email username and password you programmed in. This is a security vulnerability of great proportions, and it's important to emphasize what a poor design decision is involved here. Recommendations: 1. If you do use the email features, use a dummy account, whose security breach you are not worried about. Don't use your main email or gmail account for sending email from the camera. 2. If you set up Wifi or email, don't use port forwarding. At least until the firmware supports SSL. The fact that an IP camera designed in part for security applications has such poor firmware security is ironic.s

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well with Mac No issues with this product. The only thing I found is that the IR light is useless because I use the camera behind a window to look outside and the IR light bounces off the window glass and back on the camera blinding it. I just manually turn off the IR lights. I did purchase a separate program to control the camera remotely which I thought was better than the native software to run the camera/motion sensor and record from my Mac. Camera does what it says though.
