The camera support can be picked up and moved with the carrying handle that's built onto the frame. Any 3/8" female threaded tripod head is compatible with the Low Pod Camera Support, and four rubber feet keep the mount from sliding on rocks and other uneven surfaces. The support is constructed of aluminum and is powder-coated for durability.

It can be modified with some elbow grease.

You can use the center screw to attach a clamp or a head directly. I chose to modify mine. To remove the center screw, so you can screw down into the pod, you will need to remove the support plate by unscrewing the 3 small hex screws 1st. Then you can unscrew the main screw (see pic). Once the main screw is removed, you can attach a leveling base or any other support you want. Reverse the process to restore the Low Pod to as bought. The mini-screws are hard to remove due to locktite or other glue(- 1 star).

OUTSTANDING

Exceptionally well-made camera platform - rock solid. I use it with RRS ball head and leveling base for my indoor macro shots. Could not be more pleased!

Can the Kirk PO-2PC be used with a Wimberley Gimbal or will the carry handle get in the way when you screw on the gimbal?
Asked by: Paul
I mounted a RRS clamp to the pod and a Benro GH2 Gimbal head with a dove-tail plate on this. The GH2 resembles the Wimberley head, and the panning knob of the Benro head will barely touch the handle on the pod. The handle can be removed, or you can orient the pod so that the lens has 180 degrees of rotation. I can see using this setup for ground-level bird shooting or macro photography.

question

Can i use it with 1dx and 500 mm ll?
Asked by: Elena
Yes, as long as you are connecting the setup to the Kirk Low Pod Camera Support by connecting the tripod head you own to the tripod collar of your lens. The Kirk Low Pod Camera Support has a maximum load capacity of approximately 75 lbs, and would be able to support the weight of your camera/lens setup.

Can the screw be removed so that a leveling base can be screwed into it?
Asked by: Gary
The pod was not designed to allow customizations. I was, with effort, able to modify mine by removing the 3 small hex screws that attach the base to the platform head with the screw. Once removed (I believe the screws were glued), you can remove the center screw from the head plate, and you can then screw down into the pod with alternative support. Don't lose the screw you removed because you may wish to return to the original configuration.
