Tangent element-Tk overview

  • 1Description

The Tangent Devices Element Tk Panel is the "Trackerball" panel of a set of four Element panels that replace a keyboard and mouse in operating select functions of supporting software, such as of supporting color-grading software. The panels can be used to achieve precise results quicker and with more technical gratification than possible with a keyboard and mouse. The list of supporting software is a growing one and includes such applications as DaVinci Resolve, SCRATCH, On-Set Dailies, Mistika, and YoYo.

The controls of the panels can be programmed and reprogrammed to operate different functions. The manufacturers of supporting software designate the functions that each panel and its controls can operate, and the manufacturers make available the details of their designations in either the respective software manuals or by phone or email upon contact, depending on the manufacturer.

Upon a control's being programmed, its functionality gets labeled on the display screen of its panel. When reprogrammed, its functionality gets re-labeled. The display screens have white OLED bulbs and show crisp, high-contrast, high-resolution easy-to-read characters.

The Tk panel has three programmable trackerballs and three programmable rings atop the balls. It has separate reset buttons for each ball and ring, and two buttons to program functions like ALT and Shift into. The trackerballs and rings work by optical laser pickup for high-precision and extended life. The trackerballs can be removed for cleaning, and they can be reinstalled quite easily.

The different panels can be used individually or all together in a set. More than one of each type can be incorporated into a set, and a widely-functional control system can thus be put together. The panels are made from precision laser-cut solid aluminum. They neatly attach to each other's sides by magnet, and they take up a desk footprint of only 7.9 inches deep. They are USB-powered and connect to a computer each by a single USB cable via plug-and-play functionality, without need for drivers to be installed. The panels can also optionally be used with Tangent's HUB service, which allows the layouts of the panels' controls to be customized. (Supporting software would have to also support HUB API.)

    Tangent element-Tk reviews

Element Tk Panel is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I was expecting I had a Tangent Wave, but I realized I didn't really used all of the buttons on it. I mostly used the lift gamma gain and colour wheels. So i decided to get rid of it and get an Element TK for a smaller footprint and combine it with a keyboard. I'm not a pro colorist, but this combo works perfectly for me. I even tried using the iPad Element application in combination with the Tk Panel, and caught myself using keyboard shortcuts instead of digging through menus on the iPad. In conclusion. The Panel is of excellent quality and I am very happy of having downgraded to this more simple way of colouring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Increase Control of Your Color Grade I use this Tangent Element TK panel to color grade HD video in Davinci Resolve. When I started learning Davinci Resolve, I initially used a mouse during color grading until I was sure the software was for me. Once I knew I would continue using Resolve, I picked up this panel and found it worked seamlessly with Resolve and gave me more control over my color grading. First load the software for this panel, then simply identify it in Davinci Resolve Preferences and it works like a charm. I currently own just the 3-trackball panel (TK) and it works incredibly well with Resolve. I am so satisfied with the function of this panel, that eventually, I will purchase the other three panels for the complete set. If you know you will eventually purchase the entire set...do so immediately and reap savings on the entire set over purchasing individually.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes color correcting life easier I purchased this because I've been using Davinci Resolve and SpeedGrade for color correction and grading. Since purchasing this, I've found that the speed increase which I can color correct is worth it. The rotating dials and balls in the TK reduce the amount of mouse clicks and guessing and the fine tuning you get using this is incredible. Note: make sure you download HUB from the Tangent devices website in order to make it work with Davinci Resolve.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am so happy with this purchase! I bought this product to use with Adobe Speed grade CC. It works fantastic with it. The level of control you have with the trackballs is something you will never get with a mouse. I recommend this product 200% for anyone looking to get into the art of color grading. Now for the absolute reason why I stand by this product: I stand by this product because Tangent stands by this product as it was made very apparent in this short story. I was having loads of problems getting this thing to work with my Speed Grade UI. I emailed support with many questions and frustrations and much to my surprise the reply I got was from the technical director himself who does all the test videos for the product. He assured me we would get everything up and running. Well after three days trading emails we finally figured out what was wrong. And that is I was not following directions. Although he tried to take the blame for it in an email, I quickly reassured him that it was my mistake. The point here is this. The company is based out if the UK, the man was on a camping trip with his family, and it was a holiday in the UK. And he still took time out of each day to respond back to me and walk me through troubleshooting steps. Now that my friends is support. I apologized for bothering him during a holiday and told him I did not realize he was in the UK. I have to tell you all. This product is pretty amazing. I use it everyday now! They carry much more simple and intuitive interfaces just like it to add onto it, so you dont have to buy the whole suite all at once. You should check them out here on. I know B&H sells all of their equipment! Again, So happy with this purchase. I plan on purchasing the whole suite as my skills develop! I tried to blast them on social media and give them a plug but they have no social media set up. This was the best I could do! P.S. For all you SpeedGrade users, you will have to upgrade to Creative Cloud to use this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent value As an indie filmmaker part of my work includes color grading. Over the years I've discovered a real love of the grading process and found that just using a mouse wasn't enough. I did a lot of research and the Element TK panel is definitely the best bang for the buck. Even better than the Ripple. Why? It's modular design allows you to expand the system as you can afford to. The trackballs are responsive and make grading a breeze. It's allowed me to increase my workflow by 30%, which is huge. The only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5 is the lack of a decent manual. Seriously. With all this thing can do, there should be a MUCH better manual for it. Having to search YouTube to learn how to make simple adjustments is not what you should have to do after paying over a grand for any piece of equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light, versatile grading surface With the Element, Tangent has made a USB-connected multi-platform grading panel capable of servicing an exceptionally broad range of grading softwares. It's tiny footprint also means that, unlike many of the JL Coopers & even Tangent's own CP100 and CP200, it takes up far less of your desk-space; and, being USB-based, is a perfect choice for colorists to take their panels to clients' remote grading suites. Simple, versatile, powerful, light: Tangent has made a winner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mean Lets be honest, If you are serious about grading, you need colour balls. A mouse CANNOT get the same level of control this can. These happen to be pretty affordable with a build it as you go mentality, made sturdy and easy to clean
