Sylvania / Osram ECT reviews

ECT (500W/120V) Lamp is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lousy bulbs in general but good for their specific purpose. The main strength of these bulbs is that you get 500 watt power that you can plug into a conventional socket. No heavy betweenie, no Home Depot stadium lights. A lot of low budget filmmakers wonder where to go after you've graduated from the Home Depot light set. This is your next step up before professional level lighting.Warning, these are incredibly hot bulbs. They do not have a long life. Also DO NOT move the light while it is on or it will burn out.The $ each your paying is so that you don't have to buy a $ professional kit. It is what it is.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bubs get the work done For the price, you really can't complain. But here's my nitpick: these are good bulbs when they work. I buy a bunch at a time because a lot of them are going to blow, some will all ready be broken. B&H's stock of these vary. The last shipment of bulbs was excellent. But my recent batch of these bulbs were just fair. They don't like to screw in and that takes some time. But for the price, they are a good bulb when you get them to work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Effective use indoors Bought these bulbs to replace 250w bulbs that had burned out. I use them inside for table tops and other projects. They work effective using a light box for filter. The bulbs themself are impressive, however when they were shipped, there wasn't any wrapping around the open end of the sleeve. One out of the three I purchased was broken. Always buy an extra...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very Bright, Very Hot, Very Short Life Using these for my 25 year old Smith-Victor A120 light fixtures, trying to get some mileage out of these old things, but it's an uphill battle. No matter what the packaging says, these things burn out in no more than 8 hours. Just ask the tech team at B & H, and they'll confirm it.Also, the 6-pack of bulbs cost twice as much as buying them individually. I ordered the 6-pack not realizing this, and only 5 worked upon arrival. The first replacement and the second replacement from B & H were both DOA. I called B & H back and we both agreed it was a lost cause. I'm forgetting the A120 fixtures now, and moving on. Bought FloLight kit for soft lights and getting an Arri kit for hot lights. Maybe I'll use the S-V oldies sometime, but not as a front line fixture. As far as the bulbs are concerned, I'd say don't bet your life on them. And, besides, who's got the time and resources to count the hours of useage on these things? Suppose they blow out in the middle of a shoot? What then? My advice: fugettaboutit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dependable bulb These bulbs last longer than other no name brands. Go with this and you will have time for photography or filming and not waste time changing bulbs. I use them to film the Cooking With Jack channel on youtube.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Gets hot too quick these lights get hotter too soon and they also die too fast. colour is not the best colour if you want to portraits but for regular lights, this is good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What light! Such a great light. I used it to light for a film and it made it all lit up and I love it. I love how great it is. How bright it is. Wow!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good light/ bad packing This a good light but it come in a sorry packaging. I move from place to place taking picture so a bulb that I can reuse is important.
