Sennheiser MEG 14-40 Overview

The Sennheiser MEG 14-40-L is a 15.7” gooseneck microphone designed to provide intelligible speech reproduction for lectures, conferences, meetings, and houses of worship. It features an XLR 5-pin connector, which carries power for its red light ring and audio signal to a preamp. The red light ring indicates when the speaker can take the floor.

Its KE 10 capsule features a directional cardioid polar pattern and yields a frequency response of 50 Hz to 20 kHz. RF shielding protects against interference from wireless devices, giving you a cleaner signal. The flexible 15.7” gooseneck allows precise placement in front of the spokesperson. No batteries are needed to power the MEG 14-40-L, it operates on 12 to 48V phantom power.

Reading good reviews, I had high hopes for this microphone. But when compared it to my existing Shure CVG18, was disappointed that in the exactly same setup (mixer/levels/amp/speakers) this mic sensitivity was worse, that Shure... Sound quality is great indeed, but reach is noticeably shorter than Shure CVG18.

Replaced our Shure PTTs with these...

...and they are far superior.  Sound quality, ease of use, base design and quality far exceeds the Shure models we had been using for years.

The mixer would need to have a 5-pin XLR input and provide phantom power.
