Redrock Micro 3-066-0011 overview

  • 1Description

The Redrock Micro microFollowFocus is the "little brother" version of the microFollowFocus | Blue. It's compatible with standard 15mm rods and can optionally be used with 19mm rods per the addition of a microOmniMount accessory. The focusing unit slides left or right to adjust to varying lens diameters, and the gearbox flips to the front or rear to support long and short lenses.

The drive gear is standard 0.8 for cinema lenses, but still lenses can also be used per the separately-sold addition of proper gearing, such as from Redrock's microLensGears lineup. The gearbox features an adjustable backlash and is capable of achieving backlash-free focus pulls. A 2D white marking disk cleans very easily -- you can just wipe your markings away. A reinforced focus indicator at all times shows where you are focused. And a standard accessory port is available for accessories such as a focus whip or speed crank.

The microFollowFocus is made of precision-machined aircraft grade aluminum, with the drive gear being of hardened composite with a metal insert in it, and the focus wheel featuring a rubberized handgrip, offering a comfortable and confident grip.

    Redrock Micro 3-066-0011 reviews

microFollowFocus is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rock Solid Great follow focus, very solid and high quality. Two downsides: #1 there is just a teeny bit of play in the focus wheel. Honestly though, the only follow focuses I've used that have absolutely no play are around the $ and up range; so I'm not surprised. #2, the gear is fixed, so you can't flip it when you put the focus wheel on the right side of camera. It's not that big of an issue for me but some might find that this focus could interfere with their mattebox depending on how short their lenses are.In my experience, Zeiss CP.2's are excellent glass and are a go to for filmmakers on a budget, but they're way too short. You ALWAYS need to have a follow focus that can flip the gear if you're AC has to switch to the right side of camera. So keep that in mind if before buying this guy if you use Compact Primes often.Pros: great feel, rock solid.Cons: focus gear is fixed and can't flip to the other side.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great followfocus! very smooth gears! I use this with lenses of all sizes with an adaptable lens gear. The locking mechanism is designed very well. It has the ability to be adjusted left to right while still locked onto a rig. This isn't available on all follow focuses!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A little crunchy. Even it's most loose position, gears were a little crunchy. Also, very little HOW TO USE or HOW TO SET UP info enclosed.
