Allen Avionics HD-VIT-75 Overview

The Allen Avionics HD-VIT-75 Video Isolation Transformer eliminates hum in HD-SDI transmission lines. It provides electrical isolation between the input and output and also eliminates induced currents in long cable runs. This device is useful for broadcast systems where hum is present due to ground loops or where there are large differences in ground potential.

  • Supports all transmission rates of SMPTE259m and SMPTE292m up to 1.5 Gbps HD-SDI video input
  • Equivalent to less than 20 ft (6 m) of cable
  • Isolated signal path
  • Greater than 60 dB of ground loop isolation
  • Passive device -- no power required
  • Small cylindrical package with gold-plated BNC connectors for better response
  • 75 Ohms balanced with 3.0 GHz bandwidth
  • Greater than 15 dB return loss till 1.5 GHz
  • 2 kV flash tested

Hum is gone!

We used this device successfully on a 380ft SDI (Belden 1694A) run from our church auditorium to another building. Previously, we had a loud 60Hz hum and couldn't use this run for viewing our church services. The hum is no longer detectable by worshippers with average hearing.

We have a HD Coax distribution system and our input signal was being fed by HD-SDI. But we were running into ground issues because our coax system is between multiple buildings. This keeps our grounds in the right place and keeps voltage off our equipment!

Would it prevent the damage of the SDI outputs of the camera caused by a power surge when you plug a monitor or any other accessory?

Yes it will help. If you are concerned about causing a short when connecting accessories we recommend this: When setting up your camera: 1. Connect Power to all devices 2. Connect SDI cables 3. Turn on devices. When breaking down your camera 1. Turn off all devices 2. Remove SDI cables 3. Remove all Power cables It is also best practice to use shielded Power cables and avoid D-taps when possible (D-taps use plastic components that are impossible to shield).

The Allen Avionics HD-VIT-75 Video Isolation Transformer can not connect to the red Komodo directly, but it can be used on a SDI line that is connected to Komodo.
