    ART USBPhonoPlus PS reviews

USB Phono Plus Phono Preamp with USB is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is A Good Thing! This preamp is built like a tank. All alum Housing. This is a perfect quick interface between a vinyl record player with a magnetic cartridge. You can use the earphone jack to monitor. You can pipe the audio from ANYTHING else you can find to connect to this preamp (like tapes, a mic). The controls have an excellent range of control. None of this too loud, oops, too soft stuff. If you want to record music from sources that use almost extinct unamplified musical instruments, this is the go between control. This preamp doesn't add any noise. A re-recording passing through this preamp into a PC is worth being lovingly restored with your favorite music software.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Mountain Lion Compatible Bought and returned 2 of these. Everyone is singing its praises, and when it worked it worked nicely, but every so often - 2 or three times per song ( i was using it to digitize vinyl) I heard beeps and other weird noises. When i brought the second one back the salesman at B&H explained that ART is slow to release Mac drivers. So, it's probably awesome if you have an old OS, but if you're with Mountain Lion or later, until they update the drivers, you're not gonna like this thing. This review is from 12/13

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Right tool for the job You have a good-quality old turntable, a laptop, and a pile of precious old vinyl. What to do? Get this, plug it in -- it powers from the USB -- connect it to the turntable, and you have all the hardware you need (assuming the laptop has a sound card). For software, I use audacity on linux -- I didn't have to buy anything. One key point: Be sure the button is INPUT button is pushed in to its PHONO setting (it lights up yellow), or the level it puts out will be too low. When it's pushed, the level should need at most minor tweaks. Build quality is very nice, with an aluminum case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from USB Phono Plus, What I Wanted The ART USB Phono Plus with the enclosed software for Audacity 2.5 were work for me. My old turntable has no line output, but it didn't matter. The USB can handle either phono, or line inputs. No more under amplified LP to CD recordings, plus the vinyl library can now be recorded and passed onto others. It will take a while, though. I have over 700 records to sort through. I like the size of the USB too. It's about the size of Don Trump's wallet, and 140 times smaller than his ego.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth the investment The pre-amp works great. Just got it, hooked up with no issues and have recorded multiple albums. Better than directly connecting a receiver to the laptop. Works with Windows 10. Windows 10 automatically detects it and starts up the proper USB audio codec. Found I needed to use my normal sound device for playback with my Toshiba laptop. B&H once again delivers quickly. I highly recommend both.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Now that I'm retired... ... a project I've been putting off for years is now coming to fruition, and it's all thanks to this little device. I bought it because my receiver did not have a dedicated phono input. With the USB output, I can digitize my records and sizable cassette collection. I can also record audio from VHS tapes, and with a little digital magic (noise reduction, EQ and volume boost) I can make everything sound almost as good as if they were recorded from digital sources. Forget the included software, and download the latest version of Audacity. Once you plug this device in, open Audacity and it will recognize this device as a source, then record away to your heart's content.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product But With Caveat I have used the product several times and it works as described very well. I have copied several vinyl LPs and the digital result seems to be virtually identical to the source. SoundSaver Express software is included and I use it to make the initial digital conversion. This software has some signal modification features that claim to fix the LP static and noise problems. I have not used those features because I do not want the noise filter to be applied to the entire digital file. Instead I have elected to use Audacity software, which I am familiar with, to clean up the digital file. The bad thing about the Art USB Phono Plus is that it accurately captures everything that the phono and LP produce, namely static and pop. So the reality in my case is that there is a lot of work to clean up the original digital file before it meets my standard to include in my digital playlist. I have used Audacity to clean up the file and then I make an uncompressed .wav and a .mpg file. I then use the .wav file to create a music CD to store with my other CD's and now I have a backup for my vinyl LP.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Punctual delivery and great product. I am using this preamp between my magnetic pick up on my turntable and my computer to digitize my vinyl records. The preamp comes with Audacity software and it is working well to accomplish the task at hand. Quality of the preamp is great.
