Peavey Digitool MX Overview

The Peavey Digitool MX 8-Channel Programmable Digital Audio Processor offers considerably more analog connectivity than similar products at this price point. Featuring 8 balanced Mic/Line inputs, each with Phantom Power, this unit can handle locations that need a few permanently-installed microphones in addition to line-level audio sources.

The Digitool MX is designed for easy setup. The fixed-architecture, i.e. non-variable input and output addresses, makes the internal software-based routing more intuitive. All functions can be accessed and manipulated through the 64 x 128 pixel onboard display or the Digitool Utility for Windows.

Powered by dual Analog Devices SHARC DSP chips, The Digitool MX has a combined 132 MIPS of DSP processing power. It can convert and process 24-bit audio at sample rates up to 96kHz.

The software controls all input and output functions, which can be accessed from the unit's front panel or the Windows-based utility. Input level and gain is selected on each channel, then dynamics, corrective, and equalization processing can be applied. Each output is displayed as a separate mixdown of all 8 inputs. Additionally, DSP processing can be applied independently to each output to optimize the sound quality of each space.

Up to 4 of Peavey's D-series wallmounted remote controls can be networked to the Digitool MX. They're able to control input source and volume level from within the output area. The RS-485 connects by CAT 5 cable at lengths up to 4,000 feet (1,219.2 m).

Easy setup
Once the analog connections are made, external setup is complete. The rest can easily be done on the front panel or in the Windows-based Digitool Utility. The fixed-architecture ensures that managing the inputs and outputs remains simple inside the software.
High fidelity digital audio
Dual SHARC DSP chips give the Digitool MX a combined 132 MIPS of DSP processing power. Incoming audio is 24-bit encoded at sample rates up to 96kHz.
Optimized sound quality with DSP processing
Each input and output has an independent set of DSP controls. Corrective, dynamic, and equalization processing can all be applied to enhance and optimize the sound of a channel.
Large front panel display and LED metering
The backlit 64 x 128 pixel graphic display shows real-time audio signal activity, active presets, and control information for audio processes. It can also monitor critical variables such as internal cabinet temperature and power presence. 16 individual LED meters display signal strength and level. A jog/select control encoder wheel and three parameter controls can quickly change settings on the fly.
Remote controllable
The DigiTool MX supports up to 4 of Peavey's D-series remote controls. They connect over an RJ-485 bus by CAT 5 at cable lengths up to 4,000 ft (1,219.2 m). The D-series remotes can be placed inside the output zones and configured to toggle input source and output volume. Additionally, there are four control input ports for external non-proprietary potentiometers.
