Sony DVP-SR510H overview

  • 1Description

The Sony DVP-SR510H Progressive Scan DVD Player (Black) is a versatile entertainer that comes at an affordable price point, whether you're using it in the boardroom, classroom or living room. First and foremost, let's talk about that picture quality -- it has Precision Cinema Progressive Technology and upscaling via an HDMI connection to a high definition TV, so the DVP-SR510H can make an ordinary DVD look surprisingly close to the quality of a Blu-ray disc.

The provided remote control makes navigation easy -- it can operate most major brands of TVs so there will be one less remote on your coffee table. If you have MP3 or JPEG files burned to DVDs, you can enjoy these using the DVP-SR510H as well. This player can play a wide variety of CD and DVD formats.

More than likely, you may at some point want to switch the movie you're watching and come back to it later. Luckily, this DVD player can remember where in the movie you were when you popped out the last six discs you watched. The DVP-SR510H also does fast (and slow) playback with sound so you can easily find the spot where you were, if you're not playing one of its remembered discs. Since this player also has a child-resistant tray lock, its great for families with young kids.

With support for Dolby and DTS audio formats, you can connect the player to your home theater system and enjoy immersive sound for all your movies. It also has a coaxial digital out in case your A/V receiver doesn't have HDMI.

One more handy feature is Photo TV HD. It works with select Sony cameras so you can view JPEG pictures in Full HD (1920 x 1080p) when you hook up your SR510H to a high definition set via an HDMI cable. And last but not least, the DVP-SR510H is ENERGY STAR compliant with a 6W power draw.

Upscaling DVD Player Via HDMI Connection
Upscaling DVD Player (via HDMI cable sold separately) makes your existing DVDs look better on your HDTV by improving their picture quality to near Full HD.
Multi-Brand TV Remote Control
Switching back and forth between remote controls while watching television or a movie is a hassle. The remote control included with the DVP-SR510H allows you to operate most major brands of television, too.
Multiple Format Disc Playback
View movies and photos and listen to music using this DVD player with multiple format playback. The DVP-SR510H supports DVD/DVD-RW/DVD-R/DVD+RW/DVD+R DL and CD-R/CD-RW discs plays WMA, AAC, LPCM, MPEG1 (like Sony Cyber-shot movies), and JPEG files.
Precision Cinema Progressive Technology
Many other DVD players detect image changes at the scan line level; the Sony Precision Cinema Progressive system, however, detects image changes at the pixel level. The picture is more faithful to the source—whether film or video—because special algorithms handle the differing pixel behavior. The technology also employs separate algorithms to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are virtually free from artifacts.
Photo TV HD
Enjoy highly detailed, Full HD 1920 x 1080p images with the PhotoTV HD mode. PhotoTV HS works with select Sony cameras and this DVD player's HDMI output to fine-tune sharpness, gradation, and color. This allows it to display images closer to the look of printed photos.
Dolby Digital and DTS Coaxial Digital Output
The DVP-SR510H includes support for enhanced audio formats from Dolby and DTS and provides connectivity to some older receivers and televisions, allowing the player to work with more audio systems. It also includes a stereo analog audio output.
Fast/Slow Playback With Sound
Fast and slow playback with sound lets you advance through scenes quickly without missing the dialogue.
Child-Resistant Tray Lock
A child lock feature helps to prevent your kids from accessing the DVD player's tray.
The DVP-SR510H was built for energy efficiency and uses just six watts of power.

    Sony DVP-SR510H reviews

DVP-SR510H DVD Player is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 48.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I wanted! I haven't taken the jump to blu-rays yet because I don't like the overly intense picture it produces and having to buy new movies to take advantage of the more pixels. Thankfully, this dvd player fills the bill for those two issues. It's a lot smaller than you would expect so it'll fit easily wherever you may need to put it. Plays any dvd without a problem and FF/skips/REW without any hiccups. Just use a HDMI cable and you're set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple DVD Player I was looking for a DVD player that was just a decent basic one. All I ever found were DVD players with way too many features for my use. I came to B&H and found the exact DVD player I'd been searching for. It was very easy to set up but I had to buy an HDMI cable. The picture is excellent and the sound is surprisingly good. The remote works fine and I'm still transitioning to using the player. I had previously had an HDTV with a built in DVD player. The price was just right for my budget. I'm not a tech expert but I do know what I like and I like this DVD player. Thank you B&H Photo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the Job I really like this DVD player. I recently purchased my first flat panel HDTV and I needed a good upscaling DVD player since I have so many standard DVDs. This player does the job. It plays all of my standard DVDs in near 1080p and the quality is excellent. As usual, B&H did an excellent job with packaging the player for shipment and it arrived unblemished. The remote is a little cheesy but other than that I am very pleased with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expected This unit is a basic DVD player. A very thin and light unit. There is no front panel showing time, chapter, or any info that units of the past did. But it doesn't cost an arm and leg either. It has two outputs only, HDMI and red/white/yellow. It upscales regular DVD to almost blueray quality. The remote does its job well, of nice size, and familular layout. For the price, this DVD player is an exceptional value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Choice ! I needed to replace an old VCR/DVD player with simple DVD player that had progressive scan (upsampling) and HDMI. This unit was the perfect solution. VERY small light weight unit with impressive playback and a remote control with features identical to Sony's full sized DVD players. It is a truely remarkable value - you'll be pleased. Note - HDMI cable was not inlcuded.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sony Upconverting DVD player I bought this DVD because I wanted a nice, upconverting DVD player for the master bedroom. The Sony is very compact, upconverts regular DVD's to near BluRay quality, and most of all was very reasonably priced. has no display, but why do you need another clock to set when the power goes out! Overall, I'm very pleased with the product!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Its a DVD player. Nothing too special. Wish it had a PAUSE button on the front. Only has Play, Stop, and Eject. The remote works fine, but in a business where people aren't technically savvy, having multiple buttons on the front helps. Seems to work fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sony DVD player We bought this to replace a player that was over 10 years old. The difference was amazing! The picture and colors were way more brilliant than the old one. We should have upgraded sooner. As an added bonus less trouble playing rental discs that have had hard use. Good value and quick delivery as usual from B&H.
