Flolight KIT-FL-220AWD3 overview

  • 1Description

The 3 Fluorescent Light Kit (5400K) by Flolight consisting of 1 x FL-110AWD light and 2 x FL-220AWD lights is a great way for single shooters or small production companies to take studio quality lighting on the road. The FL-110AWD fixture outputs the hot light equivalent of 500W while drawing very little power. The two included FL-220AWDs also operate on very little power but output double the amount of light as the FL-110AWD or the hot light equivalent of 1000W. A padded carrying case and an 8.0' light stand is included for each light, as is a light stand bag for the three stands. Kit weight is approximately 69 lb (31.3 kg)

The Flolight FL-110AWD Fluorescent Video Light with Wireless Dimming (5400K Daylight) is a great choice for a studio fixture when high output, low running cost and soft light are priorities. The FL-110AWD uses two 55W fluorescent lamps to give you an impressive 500W hot light equivalent. That's impressive enough, but it does it with minimal heat and a low power draw of only 106.2W. That means that you won't toast the talent while saving money both on kilowatt usage of the fixture and on AC costs that would have been needed when the hot lights you used turned your studio into a sauna. And with a lamp life of about 8000 hours the FL-110AWD is practically maintenance free.

The Flolight FL-220AWD Fluorescent Video Light with Wireless Dimming (5400K) is a great choice for a studio fixture when high output, low running cost and soft light are priorities. The FL-220AWD uses four 55W fluorescent lamps to give you an impressive 1000W hot light equivalent. That's impressive enough, but it does it with minimal heat and a low power draw of only 193.5W. That means that you'll save money both on kilowatt usage of the fixture and on AC costs that would have been needed when the hot lights you used turned your studio into a sauna. You can also work closer to the talent without discomfort or fear of injury. And with a lamp life of about 10,000 hours the FL-220AWD is practically maintenance-free.

In situations where low light is required the built in 30-100% dimmer on both the FL-110AWB and the FL-220AWB allows you to reduce power either on the unit's side panel or with the included wireless remote control. Beam control is provided by the built-in 4-way barndoors and the included diffusion cloth. The fixtures come with lamps and 2 yokes to offer you a choice of vertical or horizontal mounting.

Flolight KIT-FL-220AWD3 reviews

3 Fluorescent Light Kit (5400K) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Video Lights! Here are the pros: - Quick setup and tear-down - Lightweight aluminum construction (easy to haul) - Solid construction - Very low heat (can leave them on for hours without raising the room temperature to any significant extent) - Excellent soft carrying cases included for each unit. - Very good value - the quality is excellent for the price - Very bright, very white light! Cons: - The lights don't fit the stands perfectly. You may want to pick up a few large flat washers at a building supply store to fill the gap you will notice when you put the lights on the stands so that the lights sit squarely on the stand. - The remote control units feel flimsy, and the translated instructions for setting the remote frequencies for the light fixtures are a bit vague. Fortunately, each light unit also has a rotary knob that allows you to control the dimmer manually. However, as other reviewers have noted, if you dim the lights too-much, the color does start to shift. - The cloth diffusers (included with each light unit) fit well and stay put once you figure out how to attach them. Once again, the translated instructions are very little help. Summary: A great set of 3-point lights for video!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't make it through the first shot. The kit seemed well built. During the first shot of the day two lights in one of the 220 banks flickered off and never turned back on. Half way through the day the other 220 wouldn't turn on at all. Killed my confidence in the product so I packed it up and returned it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Kit So far I like this kit. It is well made and I'm sure it will last for a long time with proper care. The only downside is that the tubes take a bit of time to come up to full color temp. The tubes are fagile so swapping out daylight to tungsten is a careful process.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Filling the need Bought these for video interviews, and the first time out they performed as expected. Solid build and very happy with my choice. It's so nice to no longer deal with the heat from my halogen lights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lighting for the price My work has the Flo Light Kit that is not dimmable. It works great too, but we've spend a lot of time tweaking the position to get the lighting correct. When I was going to buy my own kit, I opted for the extra expense to be able to controll the output on my lights. It was worth it as I needed that feature on my first shoot. Got great results in just a few minutes using the dimmer controls. Lights are consistent and work really well with natural daylight through windows. I would say that they may not be the best at shooting light very far or wide. So lighting a full set you might not be as happy. For the price, I think there could be better options. But for a portable system that could set up quickly for general interviews, this is well worth the money. Have not regretted spending the extra cash to get the dimmer control.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Lights Great alternative to the much more expensive Kino Flos. Build quality is decent, wireless dimming for up to 4 groups is a nice feature especially if you get stuck without an assistant and want to watch the change on your camera while it's being adjusted. The fact that this kit also comes with slip on diffusion for the barn doors and light stands and soft cases for everything makes this a great value.
