Think Tank Photo Speed Demon V2.0 overview

  • 1Description

The black/gray Speed Demon V2.0 from Think Tank is well-named. Boasting a host of features, this is a flexible, compact bag built for heavy-duty, fast use. It's designed to hold your DSLR and 1-2 lenses in its main compartment that opens away from you for both rapid access and security. Opening away from your body means that only you will be able to see inside since the top lid acts as a shield against those around you. For even more flexibility, the bag can be worn as either a shoulder or waist pack - or as a combination of the two. There's even a top grab handle for quick grab moments.

It features a ballistic nylon exterior and YKK zippered pockets. The top contains a zipper that permits you to access your gear without having to unzip the entire top lid - another security feature. There are also multiple storage pockets for smaller items like pens and memory cards.

When worn as a shoulder bag, note that the strap is not only anti-slip in nature but removable for turning the bag into a waist pack. When worn that way, the waist belt contains Think Tank's Modular Rails that permit attachment of Modular, Skin or Multimedia components to increase gear carrying capacity as needed. The waist design contains buckle stops that prevent the belt from moving about while walking, running or trying to get that important shot. However, when worn as a shoulder bag, the waist belt tucks away inside the bag to eliminate the bulk of the straps swinging at your side.

Inside the top lid is a clear pocket for storing all your small stuff like pens and filters. There's an additional attached lanyard on which you can attach keys or an accessory storage pouch. The front has an expandable pocket that is used for your phone. On the back, a large pocket is there for more small stuff like a note pad, more pens or anything you need rapid access to but want held against your body. On the sides, more pockets allow you to stuff in your gloves or a walkie-talkie.

For complete protection, the bag comes with a rain cover stored within a mesh pocket that is secured by another lanyard. This prevents the cover from blowing away when out in strong winds. The Speed Demon is backed by Think Tank's lifetime warranty against manufacturer's defects.

Carries one standard size DSLR plus 2-3 small zoom or prime lenses; fits standard zoom, wide angle zoom, and smaller lenses
Main compartment opens wide and the lid folds away from the body for easy access to gear. Opening away from your body provides additional security since no one but you will be able to see inside bag
Can be worn either as a shoulder bag or as a belt pack with the Think Tank convertible system
The integrated waist belt disappears by tucking it into zippered side pockets. This unique convertible system is designed to minimize bulkiness while carrying the Speed Demon V2.0 as a shoulder bag
Modular rail on each side of the belt allows attachment of Think Tank's Modular Rotation System components for increased gear capacity. Using the integrated belt with the shoulder strap helps balance weight distribution between the waist and shoulder. Photographers can carry more gear easier and with less discomfort by carrying the bag in this mode
Includes detachable, cushioned shoulder strap
Non-slip coating on shoulder strap prevents strap from sliding off the shoulder
Breathable mesh lining on the back of the bag and integrated belt help keep you ventilated and cool
Metal Buckle Stops on either side of the main belt buckle prevent the belt from loosening past their positions during vigorous movement
A zipper across the top of the bag allows access to small lenses or accessories without opening the main zipper
A clear accessory pocket is also underneath the lid holds small accessories like extra pens, a small multi-tool or a tube of sunscreen
A flat pocket, for lens caps or filters, is inside the main compartment toward the front of the bag
The front organizer pocket keeps important accessories easily accessible. Handy features such as dedicated pen pockets and a built-in lanyard for securing keys or a memory card wallet are standard with the bag
A bellowed pocket is at the very front of the bag for carrying certain items like a smart phone, separately from other gear
Top carrying handle for quickly grabbing the bag when you need to go
Stretchable side pockets with reinforced bases are on either side of the bag. These can be used to carry miscellaneous items like gloves and a hand-held radio
Made with the highest quality materials like ballistic nylon and YKK RC Fuse zippers
A seam-sealed rain cover is included with each bag. It is stored inside a mesh pocket within the front accessory pocket. The detachable blue lanyard (connected to the red fabric loop) keeps the rain cover from blowing away in high winds

Think Tank Photo Speed Demon V2.0 reviews

    Speed Demon V2.0 (Black/Gray) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I hope I bought this earlier. This bag is right of the perfect size if you don't carry a lot of equipment. As advertised, it fits in a regular size camera (D750 without the battery grip) and a medium size lens. Usually, I when I go out to take pictures, I hang my camera over my neck and use this bag to hold one or two replacement lenses and other stuff like filters. The flip-away design is really useful. It's very sturdy and comfortable to wear. Will buy the speed freak or racer in the future. Cons: As mentioned in a lot of reviews, the horizontal zip is of no use at all. Even replacing it with a bag is a better design. Overall, I give this bag 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Speed Demon - great bag I have used many bags over the years, and am always looking for a bag to take just a little gear in a way that is quickly accessible to me. I don't like sling bags because I want to distribute the weight to both shoulders. The Speed Demon is a belt pack that has a shoulder strap which can be used as a shoulder bag or as a belt pack with a shoulder strap to support some of the weight. It's a great solution. It holds my D800 with 2-3 small/medium lenses and accessories. I love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great design, great features I have been using a Speed Freak V2.0 for about 6 months. It is the best bag I have ever used. I wanted something a bit smaller to take on an upcoming vacation so I purchased a Speed Demon V2.0. It has all the features I love about the larger version in a smaller package. My Canon 6D with 24-105mm attached fits nicely with enough room for my 17-40mm wide angle lens. When hiking, I use the shoulder strap combined with the waist belt to keep the camera secure.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would buy this again. Although not perfect, it is close. I use this bag for my Sony A7r II with a short lens on it plus another 1-2 short or long lenses. I love the very comfortable waist band which was very important to me. I wish there was a velcro tab so I could more quickly access the main compartment without dealing with the zipper. The quick access zipper in the top of the main compartment does not create a hole large enough to pull my camera out but would work well with a more compact mirrorless camera. Otherwise it is a well-built, comfortable bag and I am happy to have bought it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well designed waist pack So I bought this for dayhiking and it works like a charm. Just finished a 12 mile hike up and down mountains - total 2400 ft elevation change. I carry a daypack on my back and the Speed Demon around my waist. The day pack for extra clothes, hydration bladder, food, and tripod. The waist pack for my camera gear (duh). While I'm not hiking, the pack can fit my Canon 80d with strap and 15-85mm lens attached (no hood), a 10-22mm lens on its side (no hood), and a 70-300L standing up (hood reversed). I store the hoods for the 15-85 and 10-22 in one of the side pockets and a filter pouch in the other side pocket. Extra battery, remotes, SD cards go in the front. While hiking, I have my camera around my neck and the body rests on top of the pack. Great setup as it takes the strain off my neck and shoulders. That also leaves room in the main compartment to switch lenses when I need to. If I need more space, I can use the side pockets for extra lenses or whatever (hoods as I mentioned earlier) since the waist belt comes out of the back of the pack and does not squish the side pockets. The pack is very comfortable around my waist and does not rub where my legs meet my hips which my last waist pack did. I do have to tighten it pretty good though so that it doesn't sag while hiking and irritate the top of my thighs. I can also remove my backpack without removing the waist pack, which is key when I need to get my tripod. Without the backpack hindering things, it's simple enough to rotate the waist back to my side or back to allow bending over. The only con, and its not specific to this waist pack but to any waist pack, is that when hiking downhill you can't see the ground immediately below you. It could make downhilling a bit of an adventure if you're doing any technical hiking or need to be precise with your foot falls. I was afraid this was going to be too small for my gear and it is a tight fit when I have everything in it, but it fits and for hiking, it's about perfect. Highly recommended and would definitely buy again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great solution for street photography! I've purchased so many camera bags I can't even begin to name them all. It's on the smaller side and if you're a large camera and long lenses or have a ton of stuff you want to carry with you...get something else. I like to carry my CANON 5D MARK IV with CANON 70-200 f/4mm (sometimes), 50mm f/1.8 (always) and 16-35mm f/4 attached to the camera (always) and tilted slightly in the bag and it's VERY comfortable. It's really perfect for my size, my camera and what I want to carry.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hard and Heavy This bag may appeal to folks who expect to bang their equipment around...or toss it down a stairway, but it seems overbuilt and heavy to me. I am not a fan of bags with zippers which wind around corners and are not operable without the use of both hands. The quick access zipper on top of the bag is not conducive to the removal of anything larger than small items. I do not find this to be a comfortable bag for carry or use, but your mileage may vary.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice bag I picked this bag up to use for day trips when I want to pack light. It is very well made. It allows me to pack my Pentax K-3II with a short zoom attached along with a couple of other lenses or another lens and a flash. I like the fact that you can use the waist belt with the shoulder strap. It makes for a comfortable day. The only flaw I see with this bag is that the side pockets are not really tall enough to hold a water bottle securely.
