    Fujifilm EF-X20 reviews

EF-X20 Flash is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 89.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing little flash Flash is great for use with any Fuji X camera, I am using mine on my X100. Build quality is very nice, metal body with a tough grippy rubber bottom. Dials are retro styling and simple to use. Flash power is great using rechargeable AAA batteries, much more than I was expecting based on the reviews here. Flash works well with Cactus V5 wireless triggers, a Canon TTL equivalent cord and commander mode using pre-flash. Using modifiers that usually see my SB-700 I was able to get creative lighting results with a flash that fits in a shirt pocket. Leather pouch included, can fit the flash, base and two extra batteries.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big things come in small packages Love off camera flash photography. Especially wireless and radio triggered. This little fellow compliments my flash strobe outfit perfectly being able to use TTL, as a slave and or with my radio triggers. Well built, designed and compliments my x100 very nicely. So much so that I ordered a second the following day knowing two will be very useful creatively. Don't worry about not able to bounce this little fellow. If there's a will, there's a way. I have no problem doing so. I find the price to be reasonable for what you receive in such a compact item. The only drawback I find is maybe the recycle time. But then I knew that before purchasing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent After lugging around the Nikon D3 to the X-Pro1 the quality has stayed the same and even better in some areas. The light weight of the Pro makes all the difference in the world. I enjoy taking my camera with me again Sure, there are a few things on the X-Pro1 that I wish were different, but change is good as Fuji has stepped up to the plate with the X-Pro1. Satisfied.......very much. Recommend.......100%. Wish they had a zoom at he low and high end, but sure that will come shortly, particularly if the camera sells well, which I'm sure it will. Flash unit, EF-X20, is exactly what I wanted. Cover for the hood on the 35mm needs improvement. Lost it the first day, minor problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I expected! I bought this to compliment my X-Pro 2. It's small, well built, weather resistant, and doesn't add weight or draw attention when traveling light. Use it for outdoor portraits and scenic fill flash. Has plenty of power when used for indoor family pictures. I'm not shooting fast action, so the recycle time is acceptable. The TTL fine-tuning and manual level adjustments are advanced features for a flash this size and work very well. Plus factor - wireless slave/commander capabilities. Worth the price!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from One flash picture Strobe It is a great design for its propose with great construction and light source. But with one exception. Fuji dropped ball completely on this one. I have heard the reviews praising it and they are correct until they get to the truth about strobes...the ability to take more than one picture. The recycle time with fresh batteries is too slow. Your subject just walk half a block away and you are still waiting for the ready light. They should have incorporated this flash with the ability to recycle off the camera batteries like the EF-X8 Flash that comes with the XT-2. Also make all cameras have this ability. Soon, other hot shoe accessories will tap into this and free us from AAA and AA battery dependency. Fuji, please send me a free one for giving you the idea of improving

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product! The EF-X20 is a very compact, but powerful unit. It integrates flawlessly with the X10, both in appearance and functionality. It appears to be well constructed of quality materials and so it should for the rather steep price. The flash, when mounted on the hot-shoe of the X10, is positioned high enough for the lens hood to be used on the camera without a problem. The analogue flash intensity control dial is large and easy to see, which permits fast mode selection and adjustment. The dial is located conveniently on the top deck. The EF-X20's on-board exposure control/compensation range is broad and can be further extended by the incorporating the range offered via the camera. The optical slave feature works very well when the unit is used off-camera in manual (or non-TTL) mode. When used as a slave flash, there is a setting on the unit that ignores a TTL pre-flash from the camera. This then allows the main flash and the slave to fire in synchronization. It is a nice feature since not all cameras have a non-TTL or slave mode setting that can be used to reliably to trigger a slave unit. The unit can be used off-camera with full TTL functionality by using a third party remote flash cord. The Fuji X10 and EF-X20 combination is compatible with some Canon TTL cords or the equivalent. I have been satisfied with the Vello model VEOCS3 TTL off-camera cord.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Right flash for the camera but... Very nice compliment to the design and functionality of the X100s.A must for when you shoot with the filter and hood adapter attached which will otherwise cast a shadow in pictures taken with the built-in flash. I don't like the power button. I would prefer a lever-mechanical type button that you physically push into either the on or off position. Also the power button and LED should be on the side facing you and not on top. The LED lights are hard to see in sunlight. I find the flash stand adapter to be cheap and too tight - feels like I will one day wind up breaking the flash foot right off whilst trying to assemble or disassemble it.I also don't care for the fact it uses AAA batteries. Recycle times are slow and number of flashes per set of batteries is awful. In sum, buy it because it fits well, it's light, it's rugged (or so it appears), has good functionality with regards to the power setting wheel, great off camera abilities, and, you plan to travel with the least gear possible. On the other hand, If you plan not to purchase the filter adapter and hood set then I'd recommend you not bother as the built-in does an equally good job as a fill flash. If flash photography is your thing then spend your money elsewhere. I really think of this flash as a great travel companion and a toy to have fun with when going to a shoot means using only the gear you're wearing around your neck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and effective If you have a FujiFilm X series camera with hot shoe this is a must-have. It's small, well-built and easy-to-use. The power is sufficient for taking portraits a little closer up than usual, but isn't going to brighten up a dark room much. The flash can be used on or off camera, providing some more creative lighting opportunities. But at least with my X-E2, the built-in flash will need to be fired too: you can at least reduce the power of that built-in flash. Comes with a nice little case to keep it protected. Recycling time has been OK so far, so keep in mind this is small and isn't going to give you continuous firing like the larger pro-grade flashes will. Finally, looks good on the X series of cameras too.
