The YF 8x30 Binocular (Black) from Kowa Sporting Optics is a porro prism binocular with a stylish exterior and an optically excellent interior. Smooth and sleek with strategically placed indentations in the rubber armoring, this glass delivers a secure and firm grip. It has a closed hinged bridge with an eye-catching red line at the intersection of the bridge's point-of-contact. Fully multi-coated, highly reflective coated and phase coated, these optics deliver crisp, clear, contrasted images with real color fidelity. With an eye to keeping the weight down, the engineers at BSA have not sacrificed the nitrogen gas filled fogproofing and waterproofing. This is a wide-angle glass with the ability to scan an exceptional field of vision. Rubber armoring provides a secure and comfortable grip, as well as added shock-resistance. Twist-up eyecups customize the viewer's personal preference with or without eye or sunglasses. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best value I chose Kowa because it is a reputable brand. A binocular expert suggested this specific model for best value. I took a chance. It paid off tremendously. They are quite clear. I have back & neck problems, so I needed this lightweight binoculars. The neck strap is comfortably cushioned. I used them to view 500meter dragonboat races. I am the videographer at the finish line, but needed to see the partially obstructed start line. So super clear with these Kowa binoculars. I wore sunglasses & a baseball cap, no problem with the brim. I also used the binoculars to view crows & gulls fighting & attacking each other in mid-flight for food. Caught all the swift moving action. Used them in the rain, no problem. The best & most memorable usage: watching the SF Giants make the World Series from the absolute top row of the rafters. I could see the sunflower seed debris in the Giants dugout.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I WOULD BUY THIS PRODUCT AGAIN I will be using these binoculars on a whale watching cruise. For the price, these binoculars are amazing. Sharp, clear, well built and all for a great price. My only criticism is that the eye and lens caps fall of easily. Small issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Potent little binocs. I bought these for my brother; when I got them I compared them to by old Steiner Military 8x30s. These were WAY brighter, maybe a little crisper, and had a tiny bit wider field of view. Build quality is good and tough, though not as tank like as the Steiners. The bit that impressed me most was how they could see into shadows and pick out details. For example, looking into the shadowy recesses of a garage at 150 yards. Where my Steiners would show just a grey, dark, depth the Kowas showed detail and color. Of course, my Steiners are probably decades old. But still, these Kowas greatly impressed me. Also nice is the small size and light weight - it's about the same as the Steiners.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from crystal clear We are on the 31st floor and have a great view of the lake & Lincoln Park from our apt in Chicago, so we bought this so we can see the beach, boats and everything happening around us. Although this is not a super high power zoom, the picture is crystal clear and allows you to see detail at a distance. It is compact & will be added to our normal outdoor gear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value I bought this binocular for my wife. She complained about the weight of the Leica 8x42 she was using. the Kowa is much lighter and fits her hands. They are too small for me. The optics are not as good as the Leica ( edge to edge ), but are quite good ( awesom for a binocular at this price ).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value for money I bought two pairs for my 8 & 10 year-old kids (for Christmas, but I gave them a quick try out before wrapping them). My choice was guided by other very positive reviews on the web and I have to agree with them: they are great little binoculars, considering the price. I thought the image quality (sharpness and brightness) was very good and the binoculars are small enough that my kids should have no trouble carrying them around.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value Starter Binocular I purchased this binocular to use mainly during my hikes but also to just have a relatively good quality product to play around with. The binoculars seem well built and sturdy. I haven't dropped them (yet) but I think that they would fare well if dropped from a height of a few feet. They fit well in my hands and the exterior's rubber texture allows for a good grip. The focus knob is also easy to turn. The only thing I don't like about them is that their design is a bit wide for my taste.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for beginners! I bought this pair of Kowa binoculars for my wife, who is a beginning bird watcher. They are very clear and bright, with a focus knob that is very easy to use. They came with a nice little case, and lens covers for the front and back. There is nothing she didn't like about them, and I'm actually considering buying a pair to keep in my backpack for hiking trips. I would definitely suggest these to anyone needing a small, lightweight pair of binos for general use.
