question
Is the umbrella mounting hole angled upward to help center the flash beams in the center of the umbrella?
I don't remember, because I returned this product. My recollection is that it was NOT angled and that was why I did not like it. If it was angled, it did not hold the umbrella securely enough to keep the umbrella at the proper angle. I recommend you check out the Phottix brackets. Much better made, although more expensive.

question
Is the top bar supporting the two shoes rotatable? Also, the shoes are secured by bolts that appear to accept a hex wrench. Is each shoe independently rotatable with respect to the bar?
I do not believe the hex bolts can be removed they maybe Lock tight. I just tried to unscrew the bolt and it would not move. But you can face your flash or light either direction in the shoe front or back.

question
Can this hold a large umbrella, e.g. 60 or even bigger?
It has a substantial toothed locking system that should handle that fine.
