I'm confused by the questions regarding a head. I limited my search for tripod LEGS only, not legs AND a head. So does this unit have a head that comes with the tripod legs? or do you buy the head separately? N.b. I don't want the head. Thanks.

The description says there is an optional ball/pan head. The photo shows a flat head. I want to buy the 502HD 75mm half ball head. Will it fit this tripod? Do I need to buy an optional thingamajig to make it work? Thanks.
Being that the 475B has a flat base with a 3/8-16” thread, you would need an adapter such as th ProMediaGear 75mm Bowl Adapter (6"), B&H# PRTRHH2 which will convert the 75mm half bowl connection to the 3/8-16” flat base connection.

Is theere any information how to remove the head from these legs? I purchased one with the head, but id like to use it for a slider.
Typically you just unscrew the head from the legs. Make sure the panning lock is tight, then unscrew, there maybe some grub screws below the head platform, in which case the must be backed out in order to remove the head.

No, it will not. This tripod has a 3/8"-16 mount, meant for tripod heads rather than for cameras to be mounted directly. We'd recommend an equally heavy-duty tripod head to take full advantage of the Manfrotto Pro Geared 475B tripod's incredible sturdiness.

After buying this(not yet), what else should I buy to make a whole camera supporting system? The product image shows a big hole in the middle.
This is for a tripod only, you will need to add a head to the top. If you are shooting photography the Sirui K-40X Ball Head is a great choice. For Video we suggest the Manfrotto 502AH Pro Video Head with Flat Base.

Yes, it will. It has a flat base with a 3/8 male screw. The good thing on this tripod is that you can lower it to a 16.9 height, the bad one it's weight: 9.5 lb. Too heavy to carry-on all day. Setup time in sloping terrains will take longer than a tripod with ball head.
