Sound Devices PIX 260 Overview

The Sound Devices PIX 260 Rack-Mount Video Recorder / Player is a file-based video recorder and player that records and plays files up to 220 Mbps in ProRes and DNxHD at 10-bit 4:2:2. It also records and plays 32 tracks of 48 kHz audio. The captured files can be exported directly into NLEs or can be played right out of the PIX 260 for real-time purposes.

The 260 features hardware-based video scalers that via a simple menu perform real-time up/down/cross conversions between interlaced and progressive formats; more particularly, among 1080i, 1080p, 720p, 525i and 480i formats. Frame rates can also be converted, and also in real-time; by way of a 3:2 pull down removal, 60i can be converted to 24p without any loss in quality. As an example, 24p recordings sent over SDI or HDMI at 1080i 60 can be converted back to 24p. Recordings can be done after up/down/or cross-conversions at the same or different frame rates.

The PIX is a 1/2-rack, 2RU device that can be rack-mounted with an optional PIX 260 Rack Mount Kit. Power is by a 10-27 VDC that connects to a four-pin XLR port on the real panel.
