Tether Tools CU3017 overview

  • 1Description

The 16' long, orange Tether Tools TetherPro USB 3.0 Active Extension Cable is a tethering cable which offers fast and reliable transfer of images and data. The TetherPro Premium SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Extension Cable is an active extension device that allows for longer tethering distances without worrying about signal errors or corrupt data transfers.

Up to four active USB extensions and one passive 15' (4.57 m) USB can be daisy-chained together for a total of 80' (24.38 m), thus avoiding any drop-off in signals.

With the TetherPro USB 3.0 Extension Cable, signals and data transfers going in and out of the cable are buffered to ensure consistent signal quality, meeting USB's highest electrical and timing specifications.

The set-up is simple, you just need to plug the male end of the Active Extension Cable into your computer and then plug your camera or other device's USB cable into the female end of this Extension Cable so the repeater is closest to the device and not the computer. For longer distances, you can simply insert additional Active Extension increments into the chain to achieve the needed distance.

16' TetherPro USB 3.0 Active Extension Cable (Hi-Visibility Orange) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 38.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Somewhat' USB 2.0 Compatible The product is fine, but the information says it is USB 2.0 compatible. This is true from a data transmission standpoint, but that is not the end of the story. If using this cable on a computer with a USB 2.0 port, that USB 2.0 port needs to supply sufficient power for the active component on the USB 3.0 cable to operate. Unfortunately on my mid-2010 MacBook Pro the USB 2.0 ports do not have sufficient power for the USB 3.0 TetherPro cable. I am sure this is the case with some other computer's USB 2.0 ports. So I returned the TT USB 3.0 cable and purchased the TT USB 2.0 Active Extension. All works well now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly What I Wanted My computers are in one room and all the hard drives, servers, etc., are in another room. I wanted a high speed cable to connect a USB 3 HDD dock to an iMac. Researching, I found that an 'active' cable was key to getting a reliable high speed connection to devices more than a few meters away. I haven't tried any other brands, but this cable has worked great. Speeds from a Transcend card reader are as fast as if the reader is connected directly to the Mac. The female end is a little bulky, but it's hidden away. Cable seems well made and sturdy while still being flexible enough to route easily.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay, But Some Issues The studio used this extension cable when shooting tethered with the Canon 5DSR and Capture One. During our commercial shoot the cable had a bit of delay and needed to be unplugged and plugged back in a couple times. I would recommend getting a longer interface cable instead of an extension if you can.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Watch your step! This works fine. Be warned: The large coupling end will likely be on the ground/floor and is not sturdy enough to withstand being stepped on. It will crack ..or worse.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Works perfect with my D810. I purchase this because its compatible with older usb 2.0 too, so i can use it with different cameras.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seems to work well I bought one without the power booster connected and it didn't work. The booster makes the difference.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from works well for my usb mic I have a Blue Snowball USB condenser mic that I move around alot to record various things (vocals, drums, etc...) and my existing usb cables weren't long enough.for a while i was getting by with putting a powered hub in between, but i felt like the hub was adding to my latency a bit -- felt like i was experiencing more drop outs and what-not. so now i've been using this active cable and it works great... seems a little pricey for what it is, but it works!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tether or Not to Tether Speed of data throughput should be your first concern NOT clients ability to see what you are shooting. Sorry clients. At the end of the day your images are what they want. If you have to tether us the USB 3.0 system which is faster than other cables. Speed will help protect those moment from escaping you because of a data backlog. Moments in life do not repeat themselves very often. Be sure to capture them and not wait for it.
