    Leica EVF2 reviews

Visoflex EVF2 Electronic Accessory Viewfinder for X2, X Vario, and M Cameras is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Expensive, old tech, worthless I have bought this viewfinder and not only is very old tech, it is overpriced even when compared with the same brand. I have the viewfinder for my Leica T and not only has way more definition 3.7MP vs only 1.4MP of the EVF2. Cost are about the same. Moreover this is exactly the Olympus VF2 which is discontinued long ago and used to cost less than half. Frankly I don't see the German engineering in this component. It is no question that an evf is useful for a Leica M, but for sure a rebranded and over costed old technology Olympus part, it is like Leica is cheating us.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Leica EVF2 Without the EVF2, rapid focusing was a challenge, and led to a percentage of my pictures being out of focus. The EVF2 incorporates a brighter image, a magnification component, direct links to the focusing ring, an adjustable diopter, and focus highlighting. This product completely removes focusing challenges and puts the user in complete control. Regrettably, it is not the most attractive addition and it does take something away from the classic lines of the Leica M(240). Nevertheless, its usefulness greatly outweighs its challenge to Leica's classic aesthetics. It is particularly useful in conjunction with longer focal length (>50mm) lenses. Overall, an excellent, albeit not cheap accessory.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great addition, but twice the price I use it on a leica and it is great for composing/viewing. Very clear and sharp. Nice snug fit. It is too bad it is twice as expensive as the Olympus vf2, and there is no difference between it and the olympus, except for the name printed on it. So, for it to say Leica you spend twice what you can get it for. If you don't care it says Olympus, then you can save some money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from is good BUT.... I purchased this item in advance of getting my 21mm (so this review is based on how it works with a 50mm), as I'm a highly technical personI had no problems adjusting my M(240) to work with it but I would recumbent that any one that uses this view finder set the magnification at no more than 5x if you are using auto focus assist. other than that remember alway to press the little button (in the EVF) to see thru it and the press is again every time you wish to review the image, I also suggest that you set the auto review time to ZERO (off what ever) as it takes a bit for the I'm,age to show in the EVF. I'll have my 21mm this week can wait to see how well it works with that.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buy the Olympus Version Instead! Bought a used Olympus VF-2 for $$. Same viewfinder why spend $500 for the same thing? It is a very helpful accessory, particularly if you're focusing with something like the 0.95 Noctiliux. Plus, it weighs practically nothing, so I hardly notic that it's even there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small EVF provides powerful results. I use the EVF2 more or less as my standard viewfinder on the X2. Strictly speaking it is not necessary as the large screen is very useful for composing shots, but it provides a much more intimate connection to the camera and, particularly in connection with candids of people interacting, allows me to track the action and get a shot (for example) where no one is blinking, looking away or being unphotogenic. What is really great about this item is that it turns my light-weight, compact and relatively unassuming camera into a powerful DSLR because with it, I can see what the lens sees. Plus, it piggybacks the X2's power supply but does not drain the battery very much at all; also, in high or low light situations, it is many times more reliable than the big screen, plus, it is amply, internally lit. In short it's a pleasure.OK, it may be a bit pricey, but as is the case with many high-value items, it delivers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never thought I would like it. I love it, as this viewfinder really helps u to get the right exposure you want. Great use for low light situation. Initially, I did not think I would ever bought one, which turns out to be one my favorite investment for my Leica M. Most importantly, it really helps you get the focus right, and really increase the sharpness of the picture. Thumps up. My only complaint would be wish they are made of better material :D

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must-have accessory for the M. I purchased the EVF2 at the same time as my Leica M (240) order, based on recommendations on the web. I am an experienced Leica M-series (film) user, and enjoy using the optical rangefined. I wanted the EVF2 for two reasons: I purchased an M 21 f1.4 ASPH lens, and that means viewing either through the EVF2 or via the monitor on the back of the camera. Also, the EVF2 gives a clear view of both the exact framing of the subject area and of the stopped-down image, based on your chosen settings. It also alows you to use the focus aids, which are very helpful, especially when choosing a narrow depth of field, for example with Summilux lenses, or with the Noctilux. The EVF2 works well. As others have noted, the diopter adjustment ring is easy to move, so you have to check it periodically to be sure it is set where you want it to be. Apart from that, I have no issues with the unit.
