HPRC 2550W overview

  • 1Description

The blue 2550 High-Performance Resin Case Hard Case with Cubed Foam from HPRC is a lightweight, waterproof, unbreakable case. It is also crush, acid and corrosion proof and meets ATA 300 specifications for transit cases. The case also meets IP67, STANAG 4280, DS 81-41 standards for vibration, temperature exposure and impact. The interior is a cubed foam that can be configured to accommodate whatever gear you need on a given day. Each piece of equipment can be securely nested within its own foam compartment.

The hard-resin shell is virtually unbreakable, and the interior rubber O-rings keep the case air and watertight. HPRC wheeled cases have a smooth low-profile backing that houses a high-strength aluminum telescoping handle. This efficient design translates into a clean finish on the back side of the case, while the use of aluminum delivers a stiff feel for complete control between the handle and case. The hardware is all stainless steel and bolstered by reinforced corners and hinges. The case also comes with smooth-gliding wheels, soft-grip handle for carrying and an air pressure release valve. The case is sealed with double hinged latches for a firm closure that will accept an optional TSA (Transportation Security Administration) approved lock.

The case can be used to carry anything but is targeted for transporting delicate, expensive and valuable audio, photo or video equipment and accessories. HPRC cases are used by the military, nautical, police and many other factions to protect their gear from dust, dirt, water, impact and corrosion. HPRC backs the case with its lifetime replacement warranty.

    HPRC 2550W reviews

2550 Wheeled Hard Case with Cubed Foam Interior (Blue) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 52.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for the traveling photographer! Love this product! Bought it when I was out of town shooting a wedding. Shipped really fast, and I was able to pack it and fit everything quite comfortably. I use 2 DSLR bodies, 5 lenses, 1 speed light, and of course cards and light meter. Managed to fit everything in, and didn't feel uncomfortable with taking it on the airplane with me. I'm a pretty small person, so I really can't carry a lot of heavy things, let alone place them in the overhead hanger in the planes.. HOWEVER, it worked out perfectly - wasn't too heavy, and was easy to manage during my travels. I would most definitely purchase again if I even needed a second!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very sturdy Awkward handle setup that requires 2-steps to open and use, not as convenient as Storm or Pelican. The wheel configuration makes more internal space than the Pelican or Storm though - it's very minor but just slightly more vertical space in this model hence why I bought it. The drawback - the wheel apparatus is a flat metal plate on the outside of the case, which attracts dirt etc and looks like a magnet for dings by TSA. Overall a good case with excellent latches and durable design. My favorite cases are Storm but for this size, this case is more durable and slightly more roomy internally.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good but small for boat load of gear Using this as a carry around for going to shoots. It's not quite big enough to carry everything I have with the cubed foam. Going to see about getting the dividers which I heard is better for fitting more stuff. Gear load out of standard kit consists of 2 7Ds, 70-200, 17-55, 11-16, 2 to 3 580EX class flashes. Stands etc needs to be packed separately. Mainly go this because it'll fit in carry on space for flights. However, you'll likely go over the weight limit so that's something to remember. The wheels are good but when it's bumping over ruts etc you'd which it has some sort of suspension so you don't knock your gear around inside.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like Pelican but prettier! I love this case. I know a lot of photographers say they don't really give a poo about appearance, but at the end of the day, I want to look suave while I do my work, and in essence, this case's aesthetics contributes to that. Apart from it looking nice as heck, the case is just like a Pelican - hard, strong, rigid, durable, etc. My only gripe about the case is the extending handle isn't as secure as I thought, and I feel if I was to lift the case from the extended handle, it'd just rip off from the case. Again, that's just a paranoia, and I've done it many times when I'm going up the stairs and so forth and no problems yet....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good multi purpose case This case is perfect for my needs,it was bought with two uses in view: As a protection case for my underwater photo gear (I use a mirrorless system); As a carry on case for short trips. It stores my basic gear for underwater photo: One Housing for mirrorless system; Two strobes; Housing double handle tray Four 20cm arms; Six simple clamps; Two sea&sea strobe adapters; If I need there is still room for wet diopters, two extra lenses, or one mini dome port (for the 8mm panasonic fish eye). As a cary on case it is perfect you can fit enough clothes for more than one or two weeks if you are not going to a polar region.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HPRC 2550 Hard Case I am planning a cruise through the Panama Canal. I will be flying home at the end of the cruise. I have a standard shoulder strap gear bag but at 70 years old I was not looking forward to the no pain no gain theory. I decided I needed a hard case with wheels and a pull handle. I began browsing the hard cases here on B&H and let me tell you there are a bunch of them. I came across the HPRC 2550. What caught my eye was it meets airline overhead bin requirements. It was nice to know I could carry it on a flight. However if I was forced to check it I would feel secure knowing my gear was packed in pre cut foam. I was able to fit my D700 with 35-70 attached, my 80-200, 20mm, 16mm fisheye and 50mm. I even had a little extra left over.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only case for 3 Elektron boxes carry-on Pelican 1510 can't fit 3 Elektron boxes like the HPRC 2550w can. It works. I checked the clearance without the foam in the lid and it is >8mm in the middle. HPRC 2550w is the only case that works for this purpose. No need to gamble trying to carry on an oversized case. The flight that makes you check it underneath might be the flight that loses it. Not worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible quality w/ good features! This hard case proved a great buy on a recen trip to Cartagena-Colombia, carrying valuable photo equipment (cameras and lenses) Although it wasn't so clear from the description, the included foam block kit was great because it was divided in two sets of different thicknesses, which allowed me to arrange the equipment in two tiers of small and mid-sized lenses, and two camera bodies. There was additional foam in the case cover and at the very bottom. Besides this, the foam comes pre-cut in half-inch little cubes all the way through except for the surrounding area, so it's just a matter of tracing the shape of a lens or body and twisting these little cubes with the hand to make the spot for each piece of equipment... So simple and effective! On the outside, the case was very sturdy and the handles are definitely very solid. One thing I expected to be better were the wheels, as they're definitely sturdy but weren't so silent after all, but this is just a minor issue anyway. The case has two locations to secure it with (not included) locks. I chose a TSA-approved lock at the airport, since there was nothing specially sturdy/solid-looking at the B&H Photo website (which would've been the logical place for truw one-stop shopping) I didn't test the water-resistance of this case, so I can't comment on that. This is a highly recommended photo equipment case, and the yellow color makes it easy to spot on the luggage conveyor when hurrying-up between flights.
