Oben CT-2461 overview

  • 1Description

The CT-2461 Carbon Fiber Tripod from Oben is a sturdy support for most DSLRs, any mirrorless or point-and-shoot camera or most camcorders. With a load capacity of 17.6 lb and a maximum height of 62.5", the tripod offers a number of advanced features that ensure its stability and reliable performance.

The tripod features ergonomically designed rubber twist locks on each leg. Because legs are non-rotating, all three of a leg's locks can be disengaged at once with a single twist of the wrist. This enables extremely fast setup of the CT-2461. A thoughtful leg design makes it a simpler task to service and maintain the leg sections.

With its 6x carbon fiber legs and center column, the CT-2461 is lightweight (2.45 lb) and solid, ready to survive the rigors of professional work. The tripod chassis is cast aluminum for further strength.

The CT-2461's rapid center column extends with a twist of the butterfly knob. For protecting your camera when the column is retracted quickly, there's a rubber damper under the center-post collar. Steel locking screws underneath the collar enable you to fasten a camera head more securely.

Pull-in/push-out positive leg locks allow you to set the positions of the three legs independently at three different angles. This allows you to shoot from low angles or on uneven terrain. For stability on softer terrain, the CT-2461 features metal spikes that retract and emerge by twisting the foot's rubber portion.

For extreme low-angle shooting, the center column can be split into two sections with the provided hex key. The shorter column leaves no protruding parts under the tripod collar, allowing you to extend the legs out to their maximum angle. For a faster method, the center column is also easily reversible. These features are especially ideal for macro and close-up photography. The retractable metal counterweight hook serves as a stopper at the bottom of the center column.

Ergonomically designed rubber twist locks on each leg are non-rotating so all three of a leg's locks can be disengaged at once with a single twist of the wrist, enabling fast setup.
Legs with 4-sections tend to collapse shorter for easier portability. The CT-2461 folds to 19.5".
Reversible 1/4"-20 & 3/8"-16 screw fits almost any head
Bubble level on tripod chassis
Center column is grooved to prevent its rotation
Split center column for low angle set-up
Spring-loaded metal counterweight hook at the bottom of the center column

Retractable metal spiked feet provided stability on ice and soft terrain.

    Oben CT-2461 reviews

CT-2461 Carbon Fiber Tripod is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for what I want. The vast majority of the time I am using wide angle to normal lenses on a D800 after a long hike so this tri-pod is perfect for that and plenty stiff for that. What it is not good for is long lenses (300mm+) as it gets too close to the weight limit and what is a good tri-pod becomes a mediocre tri-pod. One thing to be aware of in higher temps 90+F, is the carbon fiber or resin heats up enough on the black legs that the stiffness deteriorates and I have to stay away from the bottom two sections of the legs. With the bottom sections extended, the legs become more flexy but keep it to the top two or three and it's solid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all-around tripod I spent a lot of time researching Tripods before arriving on the CT-2461. I had these main requirements from a tripod, listed in order of importance: 1 - Stability & Build. Otherwise the tripod doesn't serve its purpose. 2 - Weight. I go on multi-day camping trips with my gear, so light weight is essential. 3 - Compact. Again, since I'll be traveling with the tripod, it needs to take up as little room as possible. The maximum size I was willing to accept was 20in long when all folded up - just enough to fit in a carry-on suitcase. 4 - Price. I need two tripods, so hopefully the cost doesn't destroy the bank account. I tried the following tripods: Oben CT-2431, CT-2441, CT-2461, Gitzo Traveler Series 1. Both the CT-2431 and CT-2441 were nice, but had legs that were a bit thinner than what I was comfortable with... I really wanted to like them since they're slightly smaller and more lightweight, but at the end of the day stability is #1, and they just didn't seem as solid and stable as the CT-2461. The Gitzo Traveler Series 1 was fantastic tripod, probably the nicest of them all - but was more than twice the price of the CT-2461. Between the Gitzo and the Oben, I don't believe there is enough difference to justify the price difference. The CT-2461 is very well built and feels very comparable to the Gitzo in all aspects. So in the end, I went with two Oben CT-2461's and I think it was the right call.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Light and easy to carry It's a very lightweight tripod. Collapses and stores easily with it's small size. However, there is a noticeable rattling noise inside the carbon fiber leg and the adjustment dials on each of the leg section is not as smooth when loosening or tightening each leg section. I'm not sure what the rattling noise could be but I'm trying to see if all models are the same. The tripod is lightweight and is sturdy using a D4 with a 70-200/f2.8 lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from light carbon fiber tripod Very lightweight and portable tripod. I used it when hiking in Moab and worked well and very stable. However I noticed that when the narrow legs are extended there is less stability especially when it is hot (>90' in Moab). I was using a heavy DLSR (Nikon D800 with FX lenses). Despite this, very pleased with purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Tripod It is as beautiful to look at as it is to use. Very smooth fit and finish. I've found it to be just the right height for me with the attached (optional) BB-2 ball head and I am 5'10 tall. Very sturdy, and easy to operate, sets up very quickly. I like the 4 section legs, it is small and light enough that I don't mind hiking with it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mechanically unsound Although the material of the legs is good, the way the legs connect is cheap and inferior. Legs will fall off if you pull just slightly on them. This is terrible if on a trail you are putting up your tripod for a shot. Extreme inferiority so keep your heavier aluminum.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tripod I've had this for a few weeks and am very happy with it. Its light, appears well constructed, easy to setup, and very solid. It will take a few years to see if its also durable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy and Light It's a tripod, but it's sturdy and light. The build is high quality.
