Must Have Gear

I've purchased 2 of these from B&H and it's the best option I've found to be able to quickly position lights in the studio or on some location shoots. You'll also want a wheeled light stand... I gave it 4 stars because there is no way to lock the arm in position while adding lights & modifiers or positioning counter weights, you have to balance the arm using the weights. On mine, I drilled a couple holes in key spots and added some eye bolts, one on each end, so I can keep the arm from moving while I add lamp heads and mod. The one on the bar extension also allows me to add a safety cable for the lamp head. Eye bolts are 2 x 1/4 machine threads with two flat washers and 2 lock nuts.

Extremely flexible and easy to use

This counterweighted boom is great for fast and easy light modifier adjustment in our studio. A quick note--the specs say it needs a baby pin to attach to your base but it actually uses a standard 5/8 female pin.

Cambo does not list the maximum load. It comes with two sandbags that total 25 lbs. So with just that information it should support at least 25 lbs.

When rotating the light so that it isn't facing the floor how do you lock it in place? Wouldn't gravity just rotate the light as it sees fit?
Asked by: Daniel
The RD-1201 has a friction control which automatically locks the rotating end in position.

question

What stand do you use with this Boom? The boom stands on B&H don't seem to have 1 1/8 studs.
Asked by: Mike L.
I use mine with an Avenger A5034 and it's solid as a rock! The wheels make it easy to roll around and lock in place with a foot bump.
