The 58mm Conical Step-up Ring with 85mm Outside Diameter from Cavision is an AR series, conical adapter ring. The ring screws onto the front of a lens with 58mm filter thread and provides an 85mm O.D. surface for mounting a clamp-on matte box. Conical rings are intended for special purposes – for example – if the camera has a low overhanging microphone and the matte box needs to be pushed further out in front of the lens. The ring has a depth of 1.57" (40mm).

Does the extra protrusion of this conical style adapter cause vignetting at the widest angle of a Canon XF605 camcorder?
The Cavision 58mm Conical Step-up Ring with 85mm Outside Diameter (B&H# CACSUR855840), like all similar lens attachments, will eventually cause vignetting when shot at a wide enough angle. The widest focal length of the lens of the Canon XF605 UHD 4K HDR Pro Camcorder (B&H# CAXF605) is 8.3mm (25.5mm in full frame equivalent terms), but that is not wide enough to result in vignetting with the aforementioned matte box adapter (i.e. step-up ring).
