Golden Age Project R1SM Reviews

Good but not great

Firstly, the Golden Age shock-mount is cheap, so, for only bucks it's not entirely the best designed piece of shock-ware out there. I, personally, got it to support my R1 MKIII Ribbon mic. The first time I tried to set it up, the screw-lock, which is used to control the tilt and lock the position of the shock-mount in place, that screw snapped in two and I had to replace it with some extra drum head parts. Now if I need to tighten or loosen the shock mount I have to do it with a drum tuner. It's not that big of a deal, I broke it, it's not entirely GA's fault, but I have never split a screw in two with my bare hands before. That's definitely a first.. just beware of tightening it too tight I guess, I always tilt the shock-mount back towards the mic-stand so I can push the mount back to a level position while tightening the screw at the same time, which helps keep everything snug and in place. 4 stars instead of 5 because it broke the first time I used it, but also because i've used better shock mounts, though the R1SM is still pretty good when it isn't broken! Nevertheless, despite the drama I will still continue to support GA products! Cheers, -Josh
