Key Features
  • 1.8 Optical Density
  • MRC Multi-Resistant Coating
  • Darkens Entire Image
  • Allows Reduced Shutter Speed
The 82mm B+W MRC 106M ND 1.8 Filter is a neutral density filter with a 64x filter factor that provides a 6-stop exposure reduction. Its 1.8 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By increasing the aperture or slowing your exposure time, you can control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

B+W 106M Overview

The 82mm B+W MRC 106M ND 1.8 Filter is a neutral density filter with a 64x filter factor that provides a 6-stop exposure reduction. Its 1.8 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By increasing the aperture or slowing your exposure time, you can control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes eight layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity. This filter features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

I use this filter for landscape photography, in order to slow the shutter speed to get some effects, in bright sunlit subjects.I've use this product before and I know it's quality, however it just barely made the 4 star review because it produce a very pronounced warm color cast. It may not be a problem sometimes but I would prefer a more NeutralDesinity Filter.

I had been using small apertures and a polarizer (even when it was not called for) in order to soften water at the ocean. finally got a ND filter. works great

Buy this if you are a videographer. You can work during the middle of the day and you would not know it. Since we are outdoor adventurous, we film animals at first/last light and do all our filler videos during the day with these.

question

Is this filter too dark to focus / compose with the filter already mounted?
Asked by: Dave T.
It depends of course on the amount of ambient lighting in your shot. My work flow is to focus first, shoot to check focus, exposure, and composition. You really need to see the image properly expose before adding the filter. Then I shoot a few images with various shutter speeds with the filter on. Eventually you will become intuitive about your exposure times.

question

Is this filter fit with fujinon 35mm lense?
Asked by: Anonymous
There are several Fujinon 35mm lenses listed here on B&H and none of them seem to have a 43mm filter size. However, it could simply be that your lens isn't for sale here. Without more information on the lens this question cannot be answered. Can you provide more information about exactly which model of 35mm Fujinon lens you have?

question

Will this filter work on a wide angle lens such that there is no vignetting or blocked portions on the image?
Asked by: June S.
We use the 52mm as a drop-in for a 200-400 f4 Nikon lens. No problem there.

Anyone know if this would vignette on a 16mm on ...

Anyone know if this would vignette on a 16mm on full frame? I primarily shoot a Nikon 16-35 on a D850.
Asked by: Marshall
I use it for a 16-55mm lens on Fuji X-H1. APS-C format, not full frame. No vignetting detected with that lens, which is 24-83mm full-frame equivalent.

question

Is this filter stackable? And what does the 106M mean in the name?
Asked by: Sara D.
106M is just the manufacturer's catalog number - I think the 'M' stands for multicoated. It also has markings1.8 - optical density value6 BL - stop increase in exposure64X - filter factor - needs needs 64X more exposure than without filterIt is stackable, depending on focal length of lens there might be vignetting. Worse with wider angle lenses.

question

Is the MRC worth the additional investment? I do have the 10 Stop MRC and 1 single coated 3 stop both are great.
Asked by: TERRY B.
Hi Terry,MRC is great because it reduces glare from every angles. I feel more comfortable using MRC. Hope it helps.
