question
How long can the ink sit on the shelf before installing? Shorter question can the ink go bad or dry up before going into the printer and how long before it does so?
Shelf life is approximately 2 years. But I have used ink that has been outdated 4-5 years without any drying issues or degradation of quality. Once the cartridge has been opened, you should have at least a year before any type of quality issues start to occur.

question
How do I calculate ink cost per print -- using epson SP 4900?For instance how many ml of ink for a full color 8X10 print?
Epson printers come with a built in feature that allows you to figure out exactly what each print job costs. Through the Job History feature, you can see exactly how much ink was used on a print job. The Job History stores the last ten jobs printed by the printer.

question
How many prints can this set have?
That depends on a number of variables, not the least of which is the size of prints being produced. Unless you're frequently doing very large prints, the shelf life of the cartridge will be exceeded before you run out of ink. I've been very impressed with the number of prints possible with a set of cartridges, although I did have to replace the black cartridge earlier.

question
About how many 4x6 photos can I print with 1 ink cartridge?
Well it depends on the color of the ink and the color of the picture. The 4900 uses color ink even to print B&W pictures . So it is a question that needs more information to answer.
