Litepanels Luma overview

  • 1Description

The Litepanels Luma On-Camera LED Light is a high illumination light that when equipped with an included half-white diffuser produces a soft daylight color despite the high illumination. At the same time, the illumination serves to effectively erase deep shadows outdoors and to as well fill in shadows indoors. Luma delivers in a 50° beam spread, flicker-free at any frame rate and at any shutter angle. A brightness dimmer is 100-0% adjustable and effects no color shifts during dimming.

You can power Luma by six AA batteries, by AC power supply, or by DC power from a camera (via a D-tap cable), with all three optional; and with Luma being an LED light, its power consumption is very low.

Included are a ball head for mounting, three CTO gels, and a custom carrying bag. The ball head features a cold shoe on one end and a 1/4"-20 screw on the other -- the cold shoe for mounting camcorders, DSLRs or stands, and the 1/4"-20 screw for screwing into the 1/4"-20 screw-hole on the underside of the Luma. The 3-piece gel set consists of a 1/4 CTO, a full CTO and a 1/2 white diffuser.

    Litepanels Luma reviews

Luma On-Camera LED Light is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid camera light You get what you pay for! Litepanels on-camera Luma light is worth the price. Solid construction. Great for shooting in mixed light condtions espcially with daylight backlit interior shots (windows), and as a fill light for interviews.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Could be built better My newsroom just switched over to these lights for field use on our cameras, switching from incandescent Frezzi lights. The design of the Luma is very nice and seems very solidly built, though I do have some issues with the quality/build of the electronics.I typically need to be very careful how I transport the light. It seems that the batteries need to be placed very carefully or the light will not work. Also, just over the course of driving from the station to a shoot the batteries come loose and need to be reset in the compartment for the light to work again. Also, after using this light for only two months I am starting to experience problems with the electronics. The light likes to shut down at inopportune times due to either loose batteries or something in the light itself. This is NOT an issue of old batteries, as the light has an actual 'low battery' light pattern that occurs when batteries are low or the light overheats. Thinking of sending mine back as it is still under warranty. However, something this new should not be malfunctioning so often.Other than those few complaints, the build is very solid. Dimming is very steady and responsive. The mount that comes with the light, which can also be purchased for $ from Luma, is very solid and versatile. Have yet to find a position this light won't adapt to.If not for the reliability problems mentioned above, I would give this a four star rating. If battery life were a little longer (i can get about 60 minutes at about 60% power on fresh AA's) I'd go as high as 5 stars.Great product potential, just need to get quality control up to speed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not good enough! This light is completely unreliable fort a professional situation. Failed within days of buying. The battery compartment is very poorly made and batteries just don't slot in properly creating constant failures to the point of being unusable. Save your money - don't buy!
