Canon 2821A001 Overview

Canon Close-up lenses are for quick and easy close-up photography. The close-up lens is screwed on to the front of a lens like a filter. Close-up lenses 250D and 500D have two achromatic elements to correct chromatic aberrations. They do not degrade the high optical performance of EF lenses. Close-up lens 500 has only one element, making it more affordable.

The 250D is suited for lenses with a focal length anywhere from 30 to 135mm. The 500D and 500 are geared for lenses with a focal length anywhere from 70 to 300mm.

question

what magnification is the 500d compared to the Raynox 250 and 150?
Asked by: Ian
The 500D is a +2 diopter. I use one in 58mm with my 55-250 and I have gotten very good results.I don't know the diopters of the Raynox ones, but I think you may be using 'diopter' and 'magnification' interchangeably - you can't do that. Use these equations to get an idea of what you'll see with them (you can paste these to WolframAlpha).f = focal length of your lens in meters (NOT millimeters)x = minimum focus distance of your lens in metersd = diopter of closeup lensFocal distance in meters when set to infinity w/ closeup = 1/dMinimum focus distance in meters w/ closeup = 1/(1/x+d)Subject magnification proportion at MFD = (1/x+d)*fNote that you can find your lens' current magnification by simply using d=0.
