Impact ST-SII overview

  • 1Description

This Strobros Snoot for On-Camera Flash (Version II) from Impact is part of the Strobros line of universal on-camera flash accessories. Using a snoot on your flash will allow you to narrow and focus the spread of light from the flash unit. Also included are 10° and 20° grids, which allow you to narrow the spread even more. Using a snoot is especially ideal for portrait and product photography.

The Strobros line of light modifiers use a combination of touch-fasteners and variously sized spacers, which allow you to attach them to the head of most on-camera flash units.

Easily mounts to virtually any on-camera flash
Use it to produce a narrow, defined circle of light from your flash, and attach the 10 or 20° grids to enhance this effect even further

    Impact ST-SII reviews

Strobros Snoot for On-Camera Flash (Version II) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Knights Who Say Snoot! I'm relying more and more on my portable strobes than my AC packs and lights these days. I'm also adding my portables in with my Studio lighting on location. Either way, it's good to have good light shapers. The only reason I don't give full five stars is two fold. the larger grid falls out of its holder, so I will have to lay a bead of hot glue around it to keep it in place and protected. It if were to fall out in my grip case, it might get mauled in there. The other thing is the mounting bracket. I place this on an old SB-26 flash and it fits well. It's a bit harder to fit on larger flash heads like newer models. It can be done, I'm just saying its not as easy. All in all, a handy piece of gear. When you cinch down the strap, it's pretty steady on there. I recommend using lumiquest or other bands on your head so accessories like these have something to hang on to besides smooth hard plastic.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cheap, works, but don't expect long life Had this for 3 months. (When I actually go back and give honest reviews after using the gear). Screws came off the speedring so the snoot almost fell off. I secured it with a wire, but in less than 3 months and its falling apart? Not the best build quality. Its good material, light and does not scuff easily, but workmanship was wanting at best. I still bought a second one despite the fact that the first one failed, but I bought it knowing its flimsy and could break.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay product, but not great! Solid and lightweight design. The snoot's body easily mounts to an external flash head but is non-collapsible therefore, it's difficult to store inside your camera bag. This product needs roughly 9 x 4 of storage space. I have one real complaint with the product's design. The grids do not firmly attach to the snoot body. As a result, they can fall off when the snoot is angled downward.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Grids do not fit Snoot I order this and found that both the grids do not fit at all on the snoot. I hope to see if B&H or impact can replace the grids ... The unit works great. I just have to apply tape to hold the grids on without falling off.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for Rim Lighting Easy to assemble. One of the grids (20 degree) does not fit and stay on the snoot (very loose). The other grid (10 degree) stays on with a tight fit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice product I am happy to see studio products being made for the speedlights. This is a good product and I am getting used to using it, but it is not perfect but very good. I would still like to be able to narrow the beam more. The grids help very much though, even at that it is well worth the purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, Effective, Good Value I like using snoota for effect lights. Impact does a great job making one for flash heads with this product. It's easy to use, fits different size heads with the included spacer blocks. Overall effective and a great value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what is is suppose to do. Use for hair, back, and spot in the field. A bit clumsy to get set up but works perfectly after setup. Works particularly well for background strip lighting behind floral. Good bang for the buck.
