The T8640 PoE+ over Coax Adapter Kit from Axis Communications enables camera installers to keep previously installed coax cabling when converting an analog system into digital. It delivers standard PoE and centrally sourced power with no new cables required.

The T8640 kit is comprised of the T8641 Ethernet over Coax Base Unit PoE+ and the T8642 Ethernet over Coax Device Unit PoE+. The base unit receives PoE power and transmits it down the coax. The device unit receives power from the coax and delivers up to full PoE+ power to the network camera. An optional power supply can be used if PoE is not available or if higher power for the network camera is needed.

The PoE over Coax Adapter Kit is suitable for installation of network cameras where coax cables are already present and may be very long or inaccessible. For ease of installation, the adapter features an intuitive LED display, which gives confirmation of network and power status via the cable, so that you do not need to access remote equipment to check connections.

The T8640 adapter can be used in installations that require Power over Ethernet (PoE) transmission over 328' (100m). A full-rate network connection is delivered over maximum cable ranges that exceed recommended distances for analog video installation, so conversion of all existing coaxial cable types is predictable and reliable.

    Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappointed, did not meet stated specs at all Very disappointed in this kit (along with the Axis 57v power supply bought separately). Both the Axis manual and Axis phone support stated that this kit ( + the additional axis AC to 57v DC power supply) would allow for delivery of 802.3at , ie 20-25watts) over coax at distances of up to 1400ft. We had brand new RG6 Quad cable run 740ft at a site (about HALF of what this kit should support), once we connected up this kit it was only showing 10w of power delivery (there are LEDs on both sides of the kit that show the max deliverable power from 5w to 25w). Confused as to why we were not seeing 20 or 25w, we called Axis support. They said it must be the cable we ran.... SO we re-ran the entire cable run (with new and different RG6 Quad, belden this time, vs Tripp Lite the first), and still had the exact same reading at 740ft. We tried various plugs on our coax (ie pure BNC only, or F connector + BNC adapter - nothing made a difference, same 10w of power). The data transmission was fine (ie a UDP and TCP bandwidth test across the link was reaching 90 mbit with no drops). I then decided to try reducing the distance (ie cutting the coax run, as i worked, at 400ft it was showing 25w , but cat6 can just about do that!). Very disappointed in this expensive kit + the axis AC power supply- not able to do *half* of what its spec'd to run. We did test the kit before deploying on a 200ft coax spool and it worked at 25w with the axis AC power supply (however only 20w if using a 802.3 AT switch to power the kit on that same 200ft of coax). We ended up going with a L-com poe+ over coax solution that did deliver the full power (802.3at) we needed over our same 720ft run of coax. (we even tested the l-com on the now discarded, first run of coax, which was in a huge coil as it had been removed to install the new coax run, and it worked on that coax as well!)
