Vello RFW-CP overview

  • 1Description

The FreeWave Fusion Pro Wireless Flash Trigger and Remote Control for Canon DSLRs from Vello is a versatile, reliable remote control kit that will trigger off-camera flash units and studio lights from up to 600' away. It can be used to configure up to three different light groups, which can be triggered individually or simultaneously, for a total of seven different combinations, using its multiple groups feature. Simultaneous triggering of multiple lights requires separate purchase of additional FreeWave Fusion Pro Receivers.

The FreeWave Fusion Pro also provides the convenience of a wireless camera shutter release, ideal for photographing wildlife, and also for macro and close-up photos or long exposures, where the slightest camera movement can ruin a picture. Working on the 2.4 GHz frequency gives you reduced radio interference and an extended range up to 600', and since radio signals pass through obstructions you don't need to position them in line-of-sight. Four RF channels are available to prevent interference from other users.

The FreeWave Fusion Pro is compatible with most cameras, flash units, and studio lights. The transmitter connects to the hot shoe of the camera. In case the hot shoe is needed for another function, the transmitter can alternatively connect to the camera's PC plug via its 3.5mm sync plug (PC cable not included). The transmitter also features a top hot shoe, which fully supports E-TTL metering when used with Canon TTL compatible components. This allows you to keep a TTL flash mounted on top of the camera, while using the transmitter to control off-camera flash units (in manual mode) via radio signal.

Note: Since the FreeWave Fusion Pro does not transmit TTL settings, use of a flash or light unit with full manual control is recommended. You will need to set the power output manually.
The FreeWave Fusion Pro is compatible with most cameras, flash units and studio lights. However, for flash wake-up functionality and/or high shutter speeds, you will need full Canon TTL support via your camera, flash and FreeWave Fusion Pro trigger.
This remote does not provide high-voltage sync protection, and is not recommended for use with flash units that have a trigger voltage of more than 6V.

2.4 GHz Radio Frequency
Reduced interference and improved wireless signal quality.
Extended Range
Range up to 600'.
Use as an individual or group wireless flash trigger, and/or as a shutter release remote trigger.
Multiple Groups
Configure up to three different light groups and up to seven different group combinations.
Flash Sync Speed up to 1/200 sec
Take advantage of sync speeds that match the rating of your camera all the way up to 1/200 sec on compatible cameras.
TTL Pass-Through
The transmitter features a top hot shoe, which fully supports TTL metering when used with TTL compatible components. This pass-through feature allows you to fire both TTL-controlled flash units controlled by the camera and manual units triggered by the transmitter, at the same time.
Flash Wake Up
Simply depress the trigger button on the transmitter half-way to pull the flash out of sleep mode. Sleep mode allows the flash to power down in between shooting sessions to extend battery life. The wake-up function is only available when used as part of a complete Canon TTL system. The wake up function can be switched off for flash units without a sleep mode.
One receiver works with multiple camera and light models. Just swap out the connecting cables.
Dual-Function Shutter Release Button
Press halfway to focus; press fully to trigger shutter.
LED Indicators
Confirm pre-focus, shutter release, flash wake-up, and flash trigger in wireless mode.

    Vello RFW-CP reviews

FreeWave Fusion Pro Wireless Flash Trigger and Remote Control for Canon DSLRs is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dependable, great range. This wireless flash trigger system replaces it's predecessor, the FreeWave Fusion {non-pro model}. I still have the other system, and it still works great. I like, however, the newer design, allowing for an on-camera hotshoe option built on the transmitter. Its simple system, which is right up my alley. Keep it simple. The only bummer: The frequencies are not compatible with the older model, so I cannot integrate the two. Thats ok. I now have a backup. I've used this system in outdoor and indoor settings, including large wedding reception venues, without any failure. I give it 5 stars, based on performance, dependability, range and value for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Are what they are After having to return one that stopped working after a dozen test fires, the replacement is working a-ok. A real inconvenience is the location of the on/grouping switch is for the receiver which sits directly below where the flash is seated. If you forget to turn it on or have to change the grouping, have some key, or leatherman around because only very small children's fingers can fit between the <.5 area between the receiver and flash. But otherwise, it's doing what it's supposed to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful I haven't used this on a shoot yet but I did a little test. I set the camera up inside my house (Block construction) went outside to a 50-60ft radius and fired 4 shots from front, side and back locations with one shot having a vehicle between the transmitter and camera. Viola, went inside to find 4 shots had been taken. It's a beautiful thing to still have a full function E-ttl Hot Shoe available on top the camera with the transmitter, one can have a speed light on the camera while firing a host of slave units. Perhapes one of theese days Vello will come out with a flash trigger that relays E-ttl info to the slaves at a vallue price, that would be a really Beautiful thing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent!! hot shoe flashes and camera remote. its great in that its compact.simple to use. the more expensive ones tend to have too many bells & whistles and to automated which complicate issues.i prefer simplicity. all i need is to simply trigger the light. i prefer to set the flashes manually. to control the lighting you should be manually adjusting your lights anyway. and did i mention it's cheap too!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Great So Far.... I have been using it for night shots and portrats and and, so far, it's been excellent. Well worth the money. The only one, and very odd, design flaw is that the series switch A, B, C.... ends up right underneath the flash and is not easy to get to unless I take the flash off. Perhaps this could be remedied in the next version.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It works ok The Triggers do what they supposed to do, trigger the flash. The only down side is that one can not dial the external flash options in your camera, while the flash is mounted on the trigger, to allow the flash to flash on the second courtine. One has to mount the flash on the camera in order to be able to dial the settings on the camera for the external flash. Otherwise, one gets a massage on the camera screen saying that there is no external flash attached, while is mounting on the trigger!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent value I use the Vello Wireless Flash triggers with a Canon 5D MkIII and a 600EX-RT and 580EX flash. The advantage of a radio trigger, is that you do not have to be in line of sight to trigger the flashes. Additionally, I have found that with one of the flashes mounted to the camera's hot shoe and the other flash used as a remote fill-slave flash the ETTL function can be preserved. Also, I use the system as a wireless remote cable release, which is not as cumbersome as a corded remote trigger. The build quality is fair and you have to be careful when turning the units on and off, since the switches are very small. Overall it is worth the price when compared to OEM equipment which would be much more expensive.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Worked Great 1st night I bought these on the deal of the day from B&H. They worked great first time out. Easy to use and set up. Second night I went to use them, no power (even with new batteries). So exchanged them for a new set (B&H returns are great to deal with). Got the second set. Worked great again first night. Second night again issues. Returning these and trying a different brand.
