Pioneer SP-BS22-LR overview

  • 1Description

The SP-BS22-LR Andrew Jones Designed Bookshelf Loudspeakers (Pair) from Pioneer was designed for both professional and entertainment enthusiasts with the capability to deliver a full, clear, and tight sound response for applications where space is limited. Built with a 4" (10.2 cm) structured surface woofer, 1" (2.5 cm) soft-dome tweeter, and 80W of peak power, this speaker is designed for home theater, whole house audio systems, and anywhere quality sound projection is required.

The SP-BS22-LR speakers utilize a true curved cabinet design. So besides the aesthetics being considerably more pleasing, this stiffer design reduces standing sound waves inside the cabinet, resulting in high-performance and exceptional sound quality.

Lastly, the speaker grills are removable if you prefer to see the drivers themselves.

Woofer
In the SP-BS22-LR, an added structured surface to the 4" (10.2 cm) woofer, not only is rigidity improved, so is its bass accuracy. Engineers have also vented the pole piece, again improving bass response from the same size woofers in previous models
Tweeter
To widen the sweet spot of the 1" (2.5 cm) soft dome tweeter, Pioneer engineered a custom wave guide. Increasing tweeter efficiency, together with newly designed crossovers, allows the SP-BS22-LR's play louder using less power
Crossover
The job of the crossover in a speaker is to break the audio signal into low, high and sometimes mid-range frequencies. It's an important job, and it uses circuitry like inductors and capacitors to accomplish it. The Pioneer SP-BS22-LR utilizes a sophisticated six component high quality crossover, which provides one more way of insuring high quality sound that makes its presence known
Speaker Aesthetics
The SP-BS22-LR speakers utilize a true curved cabinet design. So besides the aesthetics being considerably more pleasing, this stiffer design reduces standing sound waves inside the cabinet, resulting in high-performance and exceptional sound quality. As you look at them, you'll also notice the speaker grills. They protect the speakers, but are also removable if you prefer to see the drivers themselves

    Pioneer SP-BS22-LR reviews

SP-BS22-LR Andrew Jones Designed Bookshelf Loudspeakers (Pair) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Real Good Speakers for the Money Bought these to go along with the Onkyo TX-8050 receiver. It was a good choice. These are nice sounding speakers but they are not without their faults. Being a ported design you have to watch were you place them. On stands (generally always recommended for bookshelf speakers) is a must. Had them up high for a short while and the sound was good but not great. Also the bass can get a little too boomy. Had to cut the bass tone down a little on the receiver and then they sounded much better. The terminal plug design I liked. Made it easy to hook up. Overall very good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing speakers for the price. I first heard of Andrew Jones when the new Elac UB-5's were being tested. That led to these little jewels after reading more about Mr. Jones. After reading lots of reviews on the BS22's I knew I had to get them. Only had 'em for a few days but so far am very impressed. Very smooth sound. Great mid-range, airy highs and surprising bass for the size. I'm using them with a small stereo 25W tube hybrid amp for TV speakers and they work just GREAT. I've had lots of speakers over the years including JBL, Polk, Klipsch, Dynaco, etc. but these are my new favorites. Well done Pioneer and Mr. Jones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely The Best Bookshelf Speakers for the money I did a lot of research when I decided to upgrade my Stereo System and get rid of a Bose Surround sound System. Personally I have always felt that Bose products are over rated and over priced. All I wanted now is a nice quality Stereo Sound System to be fed from my 4K Television and to stream Audio from my iStuff and the Internet. These little Andrew Jones Designed Bookshelf Speakers are incredible. You can not get a better pair of speakers in this price range or for that matter even double the price. Rich sound, more than enough Bass performance (note there is a port on the rear of the speakers so you do need to keep them a few inches from a wall for best performance, so these really should not be wall mounted). Good mid range and treble sound as well. I also like the curve design of the cabinet, very sleek. If you want a great sounding speaker in a nice bookshelf size these are it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Probably the best buy in small bookshelf speakers. I'm using these speakers to replace the built in TV speakers. They are being driven by a moderately powered 25W amp. The sound is wonderfully smooth and extended. The bass, while not mind-blowing, is surprisingly full considering the small 4 woofer. I bought these speakers based on Andrew Jones' reputation and the wonderful reviews I've read. I am not disappointed. They do indeed outperform other bookshelf speakers I've owned that cost 2 or 3 times what I paid for these. Efficiency is more than adequate as I get plenty of clean volume with my little amp. Highly, highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recomend and would buy again I connected to my Onkyo TX8050 and I play netowrk music, CD music, USB music, and my TV. I listen to mostly classical music and these speakers replaced my Optimus Pro AV speakers, which were good for the price. These speakers have noticeably better frequency range and they enhance the depth of sound.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great sound at a great price! We got a turntable and hooked it up to an old receiver, but needed a pair of speakers. We live in an apartment and didn't have much speace. When reading online, these seemed to have the good reviews and I would have to agree with them. For an apartment, these speaksers are more than adequate. I do think there'e room for improvement at the low end - maybe a tighter bass sound would be nice. Also, they cut off at 50Hz, which is okay, but it would be nicce to have some lower end between 20Hz-50hz. Is it noticeable, not really, but it would be 'nice to have'

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clean, open sound in a small, good-looking package I've been looking for small, simple speakers that would give me a nice open sound field, with clear treble (e.g., I like to hear cymbals and bells at the top end of my music), plus a clean mid-range and bass. I don't listen to a lot of bass-thumping, more jazz and pop. These speakers fit the bill perfectly. I tried a few others, found most of them bass-heavy and muddy on top. I like the clarity and the open stage from these, and the price was 1/3 many of the others that I found inferior.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Bang for the Buck. These speakers are used as rear surrond speakers for my purposes. The quality for the price is excellent. Some say you would have to pay 2 to 3 times the price for a speakers equal to these. Some reviews i've read say, there to large or there not very attractive.I bought them for there ability to produce quality sound, whether for home theater or a stereo system.
