  • 1Description

The  8mm f/3.5 HD Fisheye Lens with Removable Hood for Canon from Samyang gives you a 167° view with dramatic, exaggerated perspective when used with an APS-C camera, or a powerful circular image floating in the frame when used with a full frame digital camera or 35mm film camera. With hybrid aspherical lenses and multi-layer coating, you will produce sharply defined images with a minimum of flare and ghosting. The 8mm lens focuses as close as 12" (30.48 cm) from the lens. This version of the 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye lens comes with a removable lens hood that provides glare reduction and lens protection, but can be removed to offer an increased and unobstructed angle of view when shooting at full frame digital or 35mm.

Note: Produces a circular, vignette image on full-frame sensors or 35mm film

Ultra wide-angle 8mm fisheye lens with exaggerated perspective for dramatic effects
Ultra-wide 167° diagonal field-of-view for APS-C size image formats--will produce a rounded image that doesn't cover the entire frame when used with compatible full frame digital cameras or 35mm film cameras
Lens is constructed with hybrid aspherical lenses for outstanding, sharply defined images
Lens features super multi-layer coating to reduce flare and ghost images
Lens has a minimum focusing distance of 12" (30.48 cm) for enhanced close-up shots
The petal-style lens hood can be removed so as to not interfere with the image when shooting in full frame digital format or 35mm film.

    Samyang 8mm f/3.5 reviews

8mm f/3.5 HD Fisheye Lens with Removable Hood for Canon is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun Fisheye Fun lens for that special perspective. A little chromatic abberation that can be corrected. Being fully manual is not a problem for me. Depth of field is so great at f5.6 or 8 that focusing is not critical. Lens flare when the sun is in the image is minimal. My main use for this lens is spherical panoramas. This is an excellent lens for this. Many pro reviews on other sites have stated that this is the best entry level fisheye on the market. Over all, I'm well plesed with this lens for panos and getting those unique shots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVE This Lens! This lens is amazing! Sharp Sharp Sharp! Incredible perspectives, too. Trying to focus is impractical and foolish. I use a trick I learnt - set focus to 3', set aperture to f/8 and depth of field is virtually infinite. This lens will teach you to look at the edges of the frame before taking the pic. Can't tell you how many times my fingers, shoes or even my knees showed up. SO many this isn't your everyday lens but you can have a lot of fun & get some very interesting shots for not too many $$$.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent value with removable hood This is a great lens for the money, and with the new removable hood is even more versatile. It is a fullframe fisheye with an APS sized sensor, and produces a square image (with the hood on) just smaller than the coverage area of a 1D series camera. On a full frame camera with the hood removed it is a circular fisheye, but unfortunately the circle is slightly cropped out of the frame top and bottom. Image quality is soft wide open, but improves greatly by f5.6. At f8 it is extremely sharp edge to edge. CA is very reasonable for this type of lens and easily correctable. Lens flare is very well controlled even with bright lights or the sun in the frame. Build quality is outstanding. It feels solid and fits on the camera easily with no play in the mount at all. The focus ring is very smooth and well dampened, but it has a long throw which makes focusing difficult, especially in low light. It has no chip to communicate with the camera so you get no viewfinder focus confirmation, but I'm sure that is one of the things that keeps the price low. If it had better image quality wide open I would be giving it 5 stars instead of 4. The more expensive fisheye lenses from Sigma and Canon are better for sure, but for the price this lens is definitely worth investing in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a great lens I have been using this lens to take sunsets and landscape so far. I am pleasantly surprised with the results. It is manual focus and aperture but that has not been a problem for me. The camera metering system works in AE then I set it to the preferred aperture. If you need to focus you can focus at the largest aperture then stop down for shooting. The camera then choose the shutter speed. It works great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am now a believer I'll keep this short. This lens was purchased to do real estate panos. It works like a charm to get beautiful 360 panos. If you are looking for a lens for this purpose this is the one. The removable lens hood makes this one the clear choice. Where I got the biggest suprise was how cool the 8mm is in the studio. I shoot cosplay models and to get wild looks this lens rocks. The lens at about f/8 is so sharp you could cut yourself with it. I'm not kidding this is one of the sharpest lenses I have ever used. For the price I can't see why anyone would pass on a purchase. It's another tool in your kit you should have. Auto focus, we don't need no stinking auto focus with this one. Put it at about 0.5 M at f/8 and shoot, you will be in focus. I love this lens and I highly recommend it, get one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little lens Ordered this lens because of the price as I never used a fish-eye lens before. It came packaged extremely well as to prevent any damage. The only thing I wished they would have included was a better manual stating how to use this lens. I was able to go on the internet and find instruction as how to use a lens like this. I love how you can be in a small space and yet this lens gives such a spectacular view. The picture I added here is of the cockpit dash as I was sitting in a P-51D Mustang Fighter. I would recommend this if you want to get your feet wet without spending big bucks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun Lens Better than I expected. Manual focus is not a problem since the depth of field is almost 0 to infinity. Set it once and forget it for the most part. Set the f stop to 5.6 - 8 in AV mode and have at it. Very good build quality, smooth mounting and removing, smooth focus ring and aperture ring. Also has half stops between those marked on the lens. Keep your feet and fingers well behind the lens. Works on both full frame and half frame although full frame shots will be circular with the lens hood removed. Not something you will use every day, but fun for special shots and occasions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Samyang 8mm HD Fisheye is Fantastico This was my first non-Canon lens purchase and I must say, I was very happy with the purchase. I have only used it on my Canon 7D to date and try to keep wide angle / fisheye distortion to a minimum in most cases by tilting the camera as little as possible. In high contrast scenes, I have noticed CA and lens flaring can be challenging at times (the latter is not unique to this lens). Additionally, I might bump the focus ring which I try to leave at infinity most of the time and end up with an occasional soft image. That's my fault as I should check it better but it's easy to just set it to F11 with infinity focus and just forget about the manual adjustments for many shots. Anyway, it's a sharp, nice quality lens with a solid construction and a great addition to one's kit without breaking the bank. I will purchase other Samyang lenses in the future based on this experience. One last recommendation to pair with it - Image Trends Fisheye-Hemi Photoshop plugin. Think about the time you spend searching for free lens profiles, software or files to aid with defishing...
