question

Can I use this camera on a Panasonic GH3, and if I need an adapter, which one? Thanks
Asked by: Lory B.
With an adapter, you can use this lens. Choosing from the plethora of adapters does depend on what you wish to do and of course, your budget. The simplest and most affordable is a Vello Canon EF/EF-S Lens to Micro Four Thirds Camera Adapter B&H # VELAMFTCEF. This simply holds the lens to the camera. If you have or plan to get auto-focus, auto iris and image stabilized lenses, you will need more sophisticated (and more expensive) adapters such as the Metabones T Speed Booster XL 0.64x Adapter for Full-Frame Canon EF-Mount Lens to Select Micro Four Thirds-Mount Cameras B&H # MESPEFM43BT3. The 0.64 shapes the image ideally for GH4 video. There is a 0.74 version that is better for photos and while video is fine as well, it is not as ideally shaped as the 0.64 version. Note: these two Metabones adapters do not accept Canon EF-S lenses. They take full frame EF lenses only.

question

Is this also a good lens for photography?
Asked by: Carter L.
You certainly can use this lens for photography. The image and build quality is very good. Keep in mind, however, it is a manual focus/aperture lens with no electronic communication with the camera. This means you will be always manually focusing, setting the aperture without click-stops and there will be no lens data to the camera.

If you buy a Metabones adapter you can fix this lens onto a m4/3rd mount. But keep in mind depending on the adapter the field of view will change.

Not a great choice for this camera as it is a different mount, you would have to buy an adapter.

question

What is the field of view with this lens on a BlackMagic 4K camera?
Asked by: Jack
The Blackmagic Design Production Camera 4K has a 1.7x crop factor. This 35mm lens will be about a 60mm lens on the Blackmagic 4k camera.

question

Does this work well on a crop sensor? Specifically I have a 7d mkii
Asked by: Anonymous
This lens will cover up to full frame sensors, so if it will fit your EF mount crop sensor it will work. Just know that the field of view won't be equivalent to 35mm as that focal length is rated for full frame sensors. Realistically, it may be around 45-50mm equivalent.
