The Tiffen 4 x 5.65" Glimmerglass 1/4 Filter is a beauty filter whose function is two-fold: in addition to modifying the appearance of the image itself, it also features a sparkling appearance when viewed from the front, instilling more confidence in the model. The filter itself helps to soften skin details, blemishes, and wrinkles. It also produces glowing highlights and a mild reduction in contrast for a more ethereal appearance. The 1/4 density provides more softening than the 1/8, but less than the 1/2.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. This filter measures 4 x 5.65" / 101.6 x 143.5mm.

This filter diffuses light beautifully! The quality is very nice as well. Though I wish I’d bought 1/4 strength filter, because 1 is a bit to much for me in some situations. Nevertheless, I’m very happy with the purchase.

Lots of reviews suggest the 1/8 for a more 'filmic look but I found that I needed the 1/4 strength to get that effect. Note that focal length and the quality of the light itself will impact the outcome. A note regarding the GG1: This provides a very noticeable effect in most cases. Maybe a tad too much for everyday use. Tiffen needs a magical filter that works on the jpeg but leaves the raw alone !

I don't usually use filters but I stumble upon a youtube video and was curious how they achieved the hazy look I was trying to achieve. I figured it was all done in post (which you can, albeit with varying results). So after Googlin' and researching I came across this specific filter. I should have prefaced that I mainly shoot images and occasional video. The filtration is subtle (had to compare images taken under the same condition, see attached) but noticeable. This for sure will stay on my lens permanently!! GORGEOUS FILTER!

I want this filter for my fujifilm 35mm f2, but it seems rare to find and it doesn't seem like a lot of people have it. Is there a reason for it? I can still get it for my 16-80 but prefer 35mm for street.

The Tiffen Glimmerglass 1/8 Filter is not made in a screw on type. That is a very low density. The 77mm circular ones come in 1, 3 and 5. So those will have a stronger effect compared to the 1/8.

From testing in the store, we saw no visible change in exposure, likely indicating a 1x filter factor and almost complete light transmission (minus any potential loss from coatings and glimmerglass particulates).

I'd like to order a Tiffen GlimmerGlass 49 filter for a Leica Q3 I have on order. What threads option and grade do I need?

The Leica Q3 accepts 49mm filters. Regarding the GlimmerGlass grade that you need it depends on how much of an effect you want in the image. How soft you want the skin to be, how much you want the highlights to bloom. For a very small amount just to cut out some of the sharpness of the digital sensor I would recommend the 1/4 grade.
