By carving my own Jacob Staff, I cut it longer than was needed (six feet) so I could attach the thimble and ensure I knew the height I wanted my Brunton campass at for my eyes. With the Brunton compass holder connected to the compass, and the Jacob Staff Thimble, I stood on my back porch to get the height just right. Then I cut the staff and attached a cap to the end. The Thimble goes into my pocket, the compass into its case, the holder into my geologist bag. I'm ready to mark property lines. The Thimble by Brunton is a precise match for holding the compass package. It is light but secure. By carving my own tip on my staff, and taking my time, I have a perfect match and comfortable staff. The Thimble can also be used for anything that will fit onto the threaded screw in the top. For the money, it's a great buy. Service is fast and efficient.
